Fawole, Saramago Lead Men’s Soccer in 3-0 Win at Boston U

BOSTON – Josh Fawole scored twice, and he assisted on a Brian Saramago strike to factor in all three goals during a 3-0 win for Loyola University Maryland men's soccer at Boston University on Saturday.

The Greyhounds (9-7-1, 6-2) remain second in the Patriot League standings with one game remaining in the regular season. Today's victory guarantees at least one home game in the conference tournament, and Loyola can earn a third-straight Patriot League regular season championship with a win against American on Wednesday and a Lehigh loss to Bucknell.

Both Fawole and Saramago continue their torrid offensive paces since the start of October. The two forwards have combined for 12 goals and 10 assists over the last eight games, with Loyola holding a record of 6-1-1 during that stretch.

After a limited amount of chances for either side in the opening half, Fawole opened up the scoring in the 55th minute. Barry Sharifi found Jonathan Sousa on the right side of the box, and Sousa sent a cross to Fawole, who lofted a shot over BU goalie Michael Stone.

Just 34 seconds later, Loyola's lead grew to 2-0, as Fawole's left-side cross was touched on by Davey Mason to Saramago, who deflected the ball over Stone for his eighth goal of the year.

Saramago and Fawole teamed up for a final insurance strike in the 84th minute, as Saramago's cross from the left side was deflected in by a sliding Fawole in front. Fawole (8 G, 2 A) is up to 18 points this season, surpassing his previous career-high total of 14 from the 2017 season. His five-point game is also a new career best.

Justin Ingram was the initial instigator of the third goal, finding Saramago on a long-distance ball from the midfield.

Saramago's goal was the 34th of his Loyola career, moving him into a tie for 14th all-time in program history with current associate athletic director Bill Wnek. He is also up to 23 lifetime assists, vaulting him into a tie for ninth in team history with Pete Notaro and Joe Koziol.

Boston U (4-11-1, 3-5) was limited to five shots, none of which were directed on target. Loyola has allowed just one shot on goal overall in the last 257 minutes of game action dating back to its 1-1 draw at then-No. 2 Wake Forest on Oct. 22. Chase Vosvick picked up his 17th career shutout after playing all 90 minutes in goal.

The Greyhounds are back at Ridley for their regular season finale against American on Wednesday, with opening kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
