Eight Men’s Soccer Players Named All-Patriot League; Sharifi, Osuji Receive Major Awards

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released its 2019 men's soccer all-conference and major award selections on Friday morning, with Loyola University Maryland once again prominently featured.

Senior Barry Sharifi was chosen as the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year for a third-straight season, while freshman Daniel Osuji earns Rookie of the Year accolades. Sharifi is also joined by fellow seniors Brian Saramago and Josh Fawole as first team All-Patriot League honorees, with Saramago becoming the first in conference history to be named to the first team in all four collegiate seasons.

Senior Davey Mason, junior Justin Ingram and junior Chase Vosvick all landed on the second team, while Osuji and senior Nico Brown were named to the third team.

The Greyhounds, who have finished as outright or co-regular season champions for a Patriot League-record three years in a row, have now also led the conference in All-Patriot League selections for three-consecutive seasons. Loyola will be the No. 2 seed in this year's conference tournament, hosting a semifinal at Ridley Athletic Complex at 7 p.m. next Tuesday.

Sharifi (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho) adds another milestone for the program, as he is the first men's soccer player in Patriot League history to receive three major awards during his collegiate career. He ranks third on the team this season with 15 points (6 G, 3 A), including game-winning goals against Princeton, Lafayette and NJIT. An eight-time Midfielder of the Week, a two-time All-Northeast Region selection and a 2018 United Soccer Coaches third team All-American, Sharifi has totaled 19 goals and 19 assists as a four-year starter at Loyola.

Saramago and Sharifi, along with Army West Point's Zac McGraw, become the 11th, 12th and 13th men's soccer players to be named All-Patriot League all four years, but Saramago stands alone as the lone four-time first team honoree. Saramago (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) leads the Patriot League this season with 25 points (8 G, 9 A), and he ranks tied for fifth in Division I in assists. Seven of his goals have come against conference opponents, including his third collegiate hat trick during a 4-0 win over Army. Also a third team All-American in 2018, Saramago is 14th all-time at Loyola in points (91), tied for 14th in goals (34) and tied for ninth in assists (23).

Fawole (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) moves up to the first team after receiving second team accolades in 2017 and 2018. He is second on the team with 18 points (8 G, 2 A) on the year, while his eight goals are tied with Saramago for the second most in the Patriot League. Fawole closed the regular season with seven goals and two assists in the team's final nine contests, including a memorable game-tying strike at No. 2 Wake Forest and a game-winning effort at Boston University. A four-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, he has 50 points (20 G, 10 A) during his collegiate career overall.

Osuji (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) made an immediate impact during his debut season, starting 17 of 18 games at center back after graduating early from high school. He has three goals and an assist while contributing to a defense that has held opponents to one goal or fewer in seven-straight games. Osuji becomes the third Greyhound in the last four years to be named Rookie of the Year, joining Saramago (2016) and Vosvick (2017).

Vosvick (Phoenix, Md./Montverde Academy) achieves All-Patriot League status for a third-straight year after being chosen as Goalkeeper of the Year in his first two seasons at Loyola. He has a record of 8-7-1 this fall with four shutouts, a 1.26 goals-against average and a .630 save percentage. Against conference opponents, he went 5-2 with a 0.77 GAA and a .722 save percentage, recording clean sheets against Army, Boston U and American. A six-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and a two-time first team All-Northeast Region goalkeeper, Vosvick has 29 victories during his first three seasons as a Greyhound.

Ingram (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) earns all-conference accolades during his first season with the program after joining as a transfer from Virginia. He has appeared in all 18 games, making 11 starts and ranking fourth on the team with 11 points (3 G, 5 A). Ingram netted two goals, including the game-winner, at Mount St. Mary's, and he also had the game-winning strike in Loyola's Patriot League opener against Army. One of Loyola's top free kick specialists, he is tied for fourth in the conference in assists this season.

Mason (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) repeats as a second team honoree after a standout regular season on both sides of the pitch. He has eight points (1 G, 6 A) on the year while ranking tied for second in the Patriot League in assists. Mason's goal was a late equalizer at 2018 NCAA quarterfinalist James Madison, and he assisted on game-winning goals against 2018 Ivy League champions Princeton and on the road at Bucknell. A three-time Patriot League Defender of the Week since joining as a transfer from Georgetown last fall, Mason was one of two Greyhounds to start every game in the 2019 regular season.

Brown (Elkridge, Md./McDonogh) lands on the third team this season after earning second team all-conference honors in 2018. He has three goals and an assist this year, contributing to an offense which leads the Patriot League and ranks 14th nationally in scoring offense (2.2 goals per game). Brown provided the insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Princeton, and he totaled five points in Loyola's 8-1 victory against Holy Cross. He has nine goals and five assists across 61 collegiate appearances.

Lehigh, which tied with Loyola for first place in the regular season Patriot League standings, received three major awards, with Josh Luchini named Offensive Player of the Year, Will Smith chosen as Goalkeeper of the Year and Dean Koski honored as Coach of the Year. Navy's Matt Nocita took home Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
