BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's basketball returns to action for the first time since Dec. 20 on Tuesday, hosting Dartmouth in a New Year's Eve contest at Reitz Arena. This will be the first of four home games in a span of nine days for the Greyhounds.

Last Time Out

  • Alexis Gray totaled a team-high 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists, as Loyola snapped a six-game losing streak with a 64-48 victory over Monmouth in its final game before the holidays.
  • Stephanie Karcz and Bri Rozzi added 12 points apiece in the win. Karcz, who leads Division I with 6.3 steals per game, matched a season high with nine thefts, while Rozzi hit 3 of 4 attempts from 3-point range to set a new scoring high in her debut season.
  • The Greyhounds outscored Monmouth by a 22-9 margin in the second quarter to take control of the contest.
  • Gray's nine rebounds were a new career high, while her six assists were one shy of her career best. She reached double figures for a fourth time this season.

Series History

  • Dartmouth earned a 54-41 home victory in the first-ever meeting between the two sides on Nov. 9 last season.
  • Loyola was limited to a 24.5 field goal percentage in the defeat, hitting just 13 of 53 attempts from the floor.
  • Dartmouth's Annie McKenna led all scorers with 13 points, while Stephanie Karcz grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Scouting Dartmouth

  • The Big Green (6-6) are coming off back-to-back road defeats to Buffalo (73-49) and Boston University (74-56), and they have lost 6 of 9 games overall after starting the year 3-0.
  • Dartmouth was ranked tied for sixth out of eight teams in the Ivy League preseason poll after finishing the 2018-19 season with a record of 13-14 (6-8 Ivy).
  • McKenna, who leads the team at 12.5 points per game, is also among the Ivy League leaders in both assists (4.3) and minutes (36.8) per game.
  • Senior Paula Lenart ranks fourth in the Ivy League at 7.7 rebounds per game.
  • Dartmouth's 54.8 points per game are the fewest among Ivy League schools.

Karcz by the Numbers

  • Stephanie Karcz has 63 steals in 10 games this season. Her 6.3 thefts per game are easily the most in the nation, with Norfolk State's Charlotte Hicks (4.8) and Cleveland State's Mariah White (4.1) following Karcz atop the Division I leaderboard.
  • The 2018 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Karcz set a new program record for steals on Nov. 30 vs. Wright State. With her 374 thefts, she has an opportunity to become the 28th player in Division I history to reach 400 for her collegiate career.
  • Karcz became the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 points on Nov. 29 against FAU. She ranks 20th all-time at Loyola with 1,040 points, seven back of Maureen McHugh (1982-86) at No. 19.
  • Karcz also ranks No. 5 all-time with 893 career rebounds, as she looks to become the fourth Loyola player in team history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is seven boards away from surpassing Mary Anne Kirsch (1995-99) for fourth place.

Hot from Beyond the Arc

  • Loyola shot 56.3% from 3-point range in its 64-48 victory over Monmouth, hitting 9 of 16 attempts from long distance.
  • That percentage was Loyola's highest from beyond the arc since the Greyhounds shot 60.0% (6-10) in a 67-64 win over Lehigh on Jan. 24, 2018.
  • Loyola's top two shooting performances from 3-point range this season have come in its two victories, as the Greyhounds shot 35.3% (6-17) from long distance in their 75-46 win at Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 13.
Newcomers Stepping Up
  • The Greyhounds defeated Monmouth despite dressing only eight healthy players for the contest, with three freshmen playing key roles in the victory.
  • Bri Rozzi reached double figures for the first time in her collegiate career, totaling 12 points after hitting 3 of 4 attempts from 3-point range. Rozzi is shooting 34.4% (11-32) from long distance overall on the year.
  • Making her first collegiate start, Ava Therien set season-highs in both minutes played (31) and steals (4) while also supplying eight points. She leads the team in field goal percentage through the first 10 games, hitting 56.6% (30-53) of her attempts from the floor.
  • Emily McAteer also set new season-highs in minutes (30) and rebounds (7) in the win. She totaled nine points, hitting 2 of 5 attempts from 3-point range.

New Career-High for Niles

  • Hannah Niles set a new career-high with three blocks in Loyola's win over Monmouth. She now ranks tied for seventh overall in the Patriot League in blocks per game (0.6) on the year.
  • Niles' three blocks were the most for any Loyola player since Delaney Connolly had three against Army on Jan. 6 last season.
Sharing the Ball
  • Loyola ranks second among Patriot League schools with 15.3 assists per game this season.
  • Two Greyhounds are in the top 10 individually, as Stephanie Karcz (4.1 apg) is fourth while Alexis Gray (3.5 apg) is eighth.
  • Loyola assisted on 17 of 23 made field goals in its win over Monmouth. Its season-high was a 21-assist effort against Howard on Nov. 20.

Looking Ahead

  • This will be Loyola's final non-conference game of the regular season, as the Greyhounds open up Patriot League play with a 12 p.m. home matchup against Holy Cross on Thursday afternoon.
