BALTIMORE – Loyola concludes a five-game road swing with a Sunday afternoon matchup at nationally-ranked Maryland. The Greyhounds will be playing away from Reitz Arena for an eighth time out of nine games to begin the season.

Last Time Out

  • Sr. G Stephanie Karcz (10 points 11 rebounds, nine steals, seven assists) came within striking distance of a quadruple double, and Jr. F Isabella Therien added nine points in her season debut during an 81-75 defeat for Loyola at Mount St. Mary's on Friday.
  • Karcz settled for her fourth double-double in the past five games. Jr. F Delaney Connolly supplied a team-high 14 points to go along with seven rebounds for the Greyhounds.
  • Therien, who led Loyola in scoring in each of the past two seasons, made her first appearance since Jan. 30, 2019. She hit 3 of 4 field goal attempts in nine minutes of game action.
  • Mount St. Mary's (4-3) scored 34 points off 28 Loyola turnovers, and the hosts shot 52.0% from the field overall. Kendall Bresee (8-13 FG, 4-6 3FG) led all scorers with 25 points.

Series History

  • Maryland leads 25-3 in a series which dates back to 1974.
  • The Terrapins have won each of the last 19 meetings overall. The last Loyola win was a 50-43 triumph at Reitz Arena on Nov. 17, 1998, while its last win in College Park was a 57-50 victory the year before on Nov. 19, 1997.
  • This will be the 25th meeting between the two teams in the last 26 seasons. The lone season in which they didn't face each other came in 2005-06.

Scouting Maryland

  • The Terrapins (7-2) were ranked No. 9 in the latest AP poll and No. 10 in the most-recent USA Today/WBCA Coaches' poll. They are coming off a 66-59 setback at No. 13/12 NC State on Thursday.
  • Maryland had outscored opponents by an average of 36.3 ppg during a six-game winning streak prior to that defeat.
  • The Terrapins have qualified for 16-straight NCAA tournaments. They've advanced to three Final Fours during that span, most-recently making the championship site in 2014-15.
  • Sr. G Kaila Charles (12.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg), last year's Big Ten Player of the Year, was one of five players nationally named to the AP Preseason All-America Team.
  • Fr. G Ashley Owusu leads the team in both points (13.6) and assists (6.0) per game.

Karcz by the Numbers

  • Stephanie Karcz moved back atop the Division I leaderboard in steals per game (5.9) with her nine thefts on Friday. She has 47 steals in eight games, including six or more in each of the last six contests.
  • The 2018 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Karcz set a new program record for steals on Nov. 30 vs. Wright State. With her 358 thefts, she has an opportunity to become the 28th player in Division I history to reach 400 for her collegiate career.
  • Karcz became the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 points on Nov. 29 against FAU. She ranks 21st all-time at Loyola with 1,016 points, six back of Mary Rieman (1975-79) at No. 20.
  • The last of Karcz's seven assists on Friday was the 320th of her collegiate career, moving her into a tie with Bri Betz-White (2014-19) for seventh place all-time at Loyola.
  • Karcz also ranks No. 5 all-time with 883 career rebounds, as she looks to become the fourth Loyola player in team history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is 17 boards away from surpassing Mary Anne Kirsch (1995-99) for fourth place.

I .Therien Back in the Fold

  • When healthy, Jr. F Isabella Therien has been one of the top offensive threats in the conference over the last two years, averaging 14.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game across her first 42 collegiate appearances.
  • Therien ranked fourth in the Patriot League at 15.2 ppg during her Rookie of the Year campaign in 2017-18. A six-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week, her 396 points were the most for any Loyola freshman under Joe Logan.
  • Therien scored 10+ points in 10 of 16 appearances last year before her season-ending injury.
Support from the Bench
  • Loyola's reserves, a group which includes four contributing freshmen, have outscored opponents in 5 of 8 games on the year, doing so by a 30-10 margin against Mount St. Mary's on Friday.
  • Jr. F Isabella Therien led the way with nine points, while her sister, Fr. G Ava Therien, and Fr. G Bri Rozzi added eight points apiece.
  • Rozzi matched a season-high for scoring, hitting 5 of 6 free throw attempts, while A. Therien (4-5 FG) is shooting 59.0% (23-39) from the field this season.
