Hart Scores 25, But Terriers Hold Off Men’s Basketball

BOSTON – Loyola University Maryland's Isaiah Hart poured in 25 points, one shy of his career high, but it was not enough as the Greyhounds dropped close one on the road, 72-65, at Boston University on Saturday evening at Case Gymnasium.
 
Hart added six assists, while Andrew Kostecka finished with 16 points while battling foul trouble with the Greyhounds (10-19, 6-10 Patriot League). Early in the game, Kosetcka became just the 10th player in Loyola University Maryland basketball history to score 600 points in a single season.
 
With the score tied at 63, Jonas Harper drilled a 3-pointer from the left corner with 55 seconds left and then forced a turnover on the defensive end that helped seal the victory for the Terriers. Boston University hit their final six free throws.
 
The Greyhounds went down by as many as seven in the second half but continued to fight their way back. Trailing 44-37 with 13:05 left, Loyola scored 16 of the next 20 points to take a 53-48 lead at the 7:57 mark after a layup by Jaylin Andrews, forcing a Boston University timeout. Hart had 11 points during that stretch, including the 3-pointer that knotted the game at 48.
 
After the Terriers got back within one, Kenneth Jones hit a three from the left wing to put the Greyhounds up, 56-52, at the 5:36 mark.
 
Tyler Scanlon tied the game back up for the Terriers with a layup with 4:12 remaining, The two teams continued to trade buckets after that, with Loyola taking their final lead of the game with 1:53 remaining following a pair of free throws from Casmir Ochiaka.
 
Max Mahoney tied the game on the ensuing possession for Boston U., setting the stage for Harper's 3-pointer that gave the Terriers the lead for good.
 
The Greyhounds jumped all over the Terriers to start the game, building a 10-point lead with 9:02 to go in the half after layup blew through the defense for two. He had nine in the first half while Kostecka led the offense with 10. 
 
Loyola led by as many as 14 on three different occasions in the first half, the latest coming after a Kostecka layup with 5:24 to go in the first half that made it 26-12. Kostecka became just the 10th player in Loyola history to record 600 points in a season with his first bucket of the game.
 
Boston U. climbed back into the game by ending the half on a 16-6 run to pull within four at 32-28 at the half.
 
The Terriers finished the game shooting 54.9-percent from the field to Loyola's 47.2-percent in a game that featured six tied and nine lead changes. 
 
Loyola is back in action on Wednesday, February 27, when it travels to face Army in a 7:00 p.m. game.
