'GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore
Evan Brown won his first collegiate tournament Monday afternoon, shooting a 1-over 73 to take medalist honors at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Springs Golf Course.

Brown used a pair of birdies on the fourth and fifth holes to move to 2-under, but a bogey on seven put him at 1-under when he made the turn. He made up for a double bogey on 11 with a birdie on 15, before a bogey on 17 pushed him back to 1-over. With a par on 18, he held onto his lead and finished one stroke ahead of Alabama Birmingham's William Walker, III and Seton Hall's Gen Nagai, who finished tied for second at 7-under 209. Brown led from start to finish and finished with an 8-under 208 (67-68-73).

The Greyhounds also finished under par as a team, combining to finish fourth with a 2-under 862. UAB won the team title with an 18-under 846. Elon took second at 5-under 859, while Connecticut moved up two spots and into third, at 3-under 861.

Senior
Erick Alonso continued to climb up the leaderboard, moving up another eight spots to finish tied for 23rd with junior
Preston Ball. Alonso shot a team-best 1-under 71 today, while Ball finished at 2-over 74. The duo had three-round scores of 2-over 218.

Sophomores
Brandon Berry and
Nick Mejia, competing as an individual, both turned in 3-over 75s today, with Berry finishing tied for 37th at 5-over 221 and Mejia placing tied for 56th at 7-over 223.

Sophomore
Brett Inserra rounded out the Greyhounds at the tournament. He shot an even 72 today to finish tied for 94th at 17-over 233.

Loyola will return to action next week as it travels to Florida for the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, March 4-5. Â
