CLEVELAND – Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving wrapped up the first day of competition at the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational Championship with the men in 14^th place and the women in 18^th.
 
Emily Koegl set a standard in the 50-yard butterfly, finishing 12^th in 24.47, while the previous record-holder, Anne Hayburn, was close behind in 24.87 to take 14^th. Devin Cronin was seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke in 28.84, also a school-best time at Loyola.
 
On the men's side, Jay Venit was 15^th in the 50-yard butterfly in (25.74). Jonathan Brooks touched the wall in 23.92 in the 50-yard backstroke, the fastest recorded time by a Greyhounds swimmer in the event as he took 25^th. Sung Lee was 30^th in 24.28.
 
Elizabeth Walsh took 37^th in the 50-yard backstroke, swimming a school-best time of 26.64. Kogel was eight-hundredths of a second off her pace in 26.72.
 
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay – Lee, Brooks, Reid Hussey and Jimmy Hayburn – opened the competition by taking 12^th in its race, finishing in 1:22.84. Loyola's women – Elizabeth Walsh, Faith Tyranski, Sophie Jahan and Megan Dickey – were 22^nd (1:35.25)
 
Jimmy Hayburn then tied for 15^th in the 50-yard butterfly (22.41), while Lee tied for 15^th (22.57).
 
Josh Walker finished 33^rd in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.54, while Jimmy Hayburn took 23^rd in the 50-yard freestyle (20.97).
 
Dickey was the Greyhounds' top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming 24.03 to finish 53^rd.
 
Brooks, Venit, Lee and Jimmy Hayburn were 13^th in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing in 3:22.56. The women's team of Walsh, Cronin, Koegl and Dickey were 14^th in 3:45.66.
 
The competition continues Friday morning with preliminary action at Cleveland State University.
