ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On the second day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Meet at the U.S. Naval Academy, the Loyola University men's and women's swimming teams are ranked among the top-10 teams in the three-day meet.
Entering the final day of competition, the Loyola men's team stands sixth with 159 as the Greyhounds moved up two spots from yesterday. The women's squad is still ninth with 97 points.
The men's team produced solid performances in both relay events on Saturday. Led by
Richard Kogut,
John Sakovich,
Josh Walker and
Sung Lee, the 200-medley relay team finished eighth with a time of 1:34.76.
Later in the meet,
Adam Jasiak,
Mark Shoemaker,
Alejandro Basalo and
Peter Warshaw competed in the 800-free relay and finished seventh with a time of 7:21.00.
In the women's competition,
Maggie Manchester,
Alden Coyne,
Christina Napoli and
Gabrielle Clarkson finished 14
th in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:51.53. In the 800-free relay, the Greyhounds women took ninth with a time of 8:10.43. Coyne joined
Elizabeth Romano,
Lauren Joyce and
Emily O'Halloran on the 800-free relay.
The Greyhound men's team picked up a lot of points in the 100-butterfly with three swimmers ranked among the top 10. Lee placed fifth with a time of 49.75. Zac Metzler had a time of 49.74 to finish seventh. Kogut was tenth with a time of 49.90.
Walker, who was seventh in the 200 I.M. on Friday, swam the 400 I.M. on Saturday and finished fifth with a time of 4:03.71. Shoemaker took 15
th place (4:24.66).
Sakovich was the Greyhounds' top performer in the 200-free with a time of 1:45.94.
Ryan Chan led Loyola in the 100-breaststroke (1:03.20) while Kogut finished 24
th in 100-backstroke (54.65).
Junior
Anne Hayburn led the women's team by taking sixth place in the 100-butterfly with a time of 55.73. Joyce finished 32
nd in the 100-fly with a time of 1:00.34.
Hayburn also did well in the 100-backstroke as she finished 15
th (0:57.98). Manchester was 23
rd in the 100-backstroke (58.65).
O'Halloran turned in a 15
th place finish in the 400 I.M. She finished the race with a time of 4:50.75.
Coyne swam the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:09.65, finishing 32
nd in the race.
In the 200-free,
Christina Guertin led Loyola with a time of 1:56.87, good for 25
th place.
