ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On the final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Meet at the U.S. Naval Academy, the Loyola University men's and women's swimming teams finished strong to place among the top 10 teams in the meet.
The Loyola men's team finished sixth among 21 teams with 190 points. The women's team took ninth place out of 20 teams with 139 points. Host Navy won both the men's and women's championships.
On the final day of competition, juniors
John Sakovich and
Richard Kogut both scored in the 200-butterfly. Sakovich finished eighth with a time of 1:52.96 while Kogut had a time of 1:54.51 to take 11
th place.
Sakovich also swam the leadoff leg of the Greyhounds' 400-free relay team which finished ninth. He was joined on the relay by freshman
Josh Walker, junior Zak Metzler, and freshman
Adam Jasiak. The 400-free relay team posted a time of 3:10.92.
Walker finished off a very strong weekend by leading the Greyhounds in the 200-backstroke. He finished tenth with a time of 1:52.48. It was his third individual top ten finish of the meet. Earlier in the meet, Walker was seventh in the 200 I.M. on Friday and took fifth in the 400 I.M. yesterday.
Metzler was the Greyhounds' top swimmer in the 100-free. He was 35
th in the 100-free with a time of 49.71.
Freshman
Alejandro Basalo led the Greyhounds in the 1650-free as he took 12
th place with a time of 16:27.92.
In the women's competition, junior
Elizabeth Romano led Loyola in the 1650-free. She was 16
th with a time of 18:09.10.
Senior
Christina Napoli had a strong finish on Sunday; she took 16
th place in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:35.60.
Later in the meet, Napoli swam the leadoff leg for the 400-free relay team which finished sixth with a time of 3:40.69. She was joined on the 400-relay by seniors
Amy Martinelli,
Gabrielle Clarkson and
Christina Guertin.
Freshman
Maggie Manchester turned in a 12
th place finish in the 200-backstroke (2:08.12).
In the 100-free, Clarkson posted a time of 0:54.51 while
Alden Coyne turned in a time of 56.41.
Next weekend, the Greyhounds travel to Cleveland State University to compete in the CSCAA National Invitational Meet.
