Box Score BOSTON – Loyola University Maryland scored the second half's first two points, but Boston University then went on a 14-0 run to stretch a 34-32 lead to 16 and take control of an eventual 71-63 win in the Patriot League Championships First Round on Tuesday night.
Casmir Ochiaka turned and scored 26 ticks into the half, but Max Mahoney responded with a basket in the paint for the Terriers (15-17 overall) to start the run. Javante McCoy scored seven of his game-high 30 points during the stretch that saw Boston University take a 48-32 lead on a McCoy basket at 12:55.
The Boston University lead stayed at 10 or higher for the next nine-plus minutes before a
Kenneth Jones three and a Jones layup off a steal cut the deficit to eight with 3:01 on the clock.
Isaiah Hart knocked down a three with 2:42 on the clock, and it was 59-54 Terriers, but McCoy made one of two at the line on Boston Unviesrity's next possession, and he hit a three on the next trip down the court to stretch the deficit back to nine with less than two minutes left.
In addition to McCoy's 30, Tyler Scanlon added 15, and Mahoney tallied 12 for the Terriers.
Andrew Kostecka concluded his All-Patriot League First Team season with a team-high 16 points to lead Loyola. He finished with 682 points in 2018-19, passing Jim Lacy's 1946-47 total for second in single-season history. His point-total ranks tied for seventh in Patriot League season history. He also had two steals, raising his season total to 85, good for third at Loyola and fifth-most in the conference.
Jaylin Andrews, who was a Patriot League All-Rookie Team member, scored 14 points and had a team-high five rebounds, while
Kenneth Jones added 11 points and Hart had nine.
