RICHMOND, Va. – Lana Golob and Lyndsey Gutzmer scored two goals apiece in the final 30 minutes to break open what had been a scoreless tie, sending Loyola University Maryland women's soccer to a 4-0 defeat at VCU on Thursday night.

Golob opened the scoring for the Rams (3-0) in the 62nd minute, and she combined with Gutzmer for three goals during 3:10 of game action to put the contest out of reach later on.

The Greyhounds (1-1) suffer their first defeat after opening the season with a 2-1 overtime win over Seton Hall last Sunday. Lily Andres finished with three saves in goal for the visitors.

VCU held an 11-0 advantage in shots through the first hour of regulation, but an organized Loyola backline allowed only two of those shots to land on target. The Rams, who have reached the Atlantic 10 championship game in each of the last two years, eventually broke through with 28:07 left when Golob headed in a corner kick from Emma Kershner.

Julia Gray kept the score at 1-0 shortly afterwards, sliding to block a shot on the goal line that would have doubled the home side's lead. Sarah Bayer then came close to equalizing in the 75th minute, firing in a low shot which was tipped away by Grace Young as the VCU goalie dove to her left.

The Rams, though, immediately countered on the other end, with Gutzmer putting in her first goal 26 seconds after Bayer's attempt. VCU then added two additional goals in the 78th minute to complete the scoring.

The Greyhounds return to Ridley Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon, hosting Quinnipiac in a matchup scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
