Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls 3-1 at Home to Quinnipiac

BALTIMORE – Junior Claire Beath recorded her first goal of the season midway through the first half, but that was all of the offense for Loyola University Maryland women's soccer in a 3-1 defeat to Quinnipiac at Ridley Athletic Complex on Sunday.

Olivia Scott had a goal and two assist for the Bobcats (3-0), who remain unbeaten on the year. Markela Bejleri and Gretchen Kron also scored for the visitors.

Bejleri opened the scoring 9:54 into the contest, firing a shot from outside the box which snuck into the back of the net. That 1-0 score held until Loyola earned a corner kick in the 32nd minute.

Nicole Rivas' corner was headed out by the Quinnipiac backline, but the ball eventually landed at the feet of Beath in front, who fired a shot off a Bobcat defender and past goalie Meaghan Phillips. Beath's goal was the third of her collegiate career, and her first since Oct. 17 last season at American.

Quinnipiac jumped back in front on a set play off a free kick five minutes later, with Kron converting to make it 2-1 heading into the intermission.

The Greyhounds controlled play to begin the second half, earning all three shots over the first 20 minutes. Quinnipiac, though, had the game's final five attempts, with Scott doubling the Bobcat advantage with 7:25 remaining in regulation.

Hannah Hoefs, Maddie Hart and Kaleigh Gallagher each finished with two shots apiece for Loyola. Shots overall were 15-9 in favor of Quinnipiac, and the Bobcats had four of the game's five corner kicks.

The Greyhounds (1-2) are back at Ridley next Friday, hosting Yale at 7 p.m. on Movie Night. All fans in attendance will receive free admission and a chance to watch The Secret Life of Pets 2 on the field with the team afterwards.
