Swimming & Diving Announces 2019-20 Schedule; Season Begins Oct. 12 at American

Loyola 2019-20 Swimming & Diving Schedule

BALTIMORE – Eight home meets highlight Loyola University Maryland's 2019-20 swimming and diving schedule, which was announced by head coach Brian Loeffler on Friday.

This year's regular season gets underway with a road Patriot League dual at American on Oct. 12, with 11 additional competitions to follow in advance of the Patriot League Championships, which will take place from Feb. 19-22 at Navy.

"Several Patriot League meets early in the season will prepare us well for our midseason H2ounds Invitational," said Loeffler, who enters his 28th season leading his alma mater. "I am looking forward to another large freshmen class joining us this fall. The goal for both teams will be to improve on our Championship placings from last year."

After the annual Green vs. Grey and Alumni meets on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, respectively, Loyola will host Boston College in its official home opener on Friday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m.

The Greyhounds then travel to the Lehigh Valley on back-to-back Saturdays to face Lafayette and Lehigh before returning home for the Thomas Murphy Invitational on Nov. 1-2. Johns Hopkins, Drexel, West Chester and Richmond will join Loyola at the annual meet.

Three more duals follow on the schedule, with home matchups against Fairfield and Bucknell preceded by a Nov. 9 trip to Colgate. The Greyhounds will look to post their top efforts of the fall at the H2ounds Invitational, which takes place from Dec. 6-7 at the Mangione Pool inside Loyola's Fitness & Aquatics Center. Other teams participating include Marist, Iona, VMI, Howard and Saint Peter's.

After an extended winter break, the team returns to action for three-straight home duals against La Salle (Jan. 20), Towson (Jan. 22) and Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 1) to conclude the regular season.

Postseason meets begin with the Patriot League Championships in mid-February, as the men and women's teams look to build on sixth-place finishes a year ago. Loyola had four All-Patriot League swimmers in 2018-19, its most since joining the conference in 2013, and has had seven honorees in the last two years combined.

Navy serves as the host for both the Patriot League meet and the ECAC Championships from Feb. 28-March 1. Loyola swimmers will also hope to qualify for both the CSCAA National Invitational (March 12-14 in Cleveland) and the NCAA Championships. The women's DI meet takes place in Athens, Ga., from March 18-21, while Indianapolis hosts the men's national championships from March 25-28.
