BALTIMORE – Barry Sharifi and Nico Brown scored in the second half, and Chase Vosvick recorded his 15th career shutout in goal to lift Loyola University Maryland men's soccer to a 2-0 victory over Princeton in its home opener at Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday.

Sharifi and Brown's goals came 14:11 apart, as the Greyhounds shutout the defending Ivy League champions for a second-straight year. Vosvick was required to make four saves to record the clean sheet.

Loyola held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes, with only three of the 13 shots between the two sides landing on target. The Greyhounds had a majority of the possession coming out of the intermission, with two quality chances in front from Brian Saramago turned aside by Tigers goalkeeper Jacob Schachner.

Sharifi broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, as a cross from Davey Mason slipped through two Princeton defenders before Sharifi slotted a shot into the right corner. The 2018 United Soccer Coaches third team All-America selection now has two goals this season and 15 overall at Loyola.

A foul on the left side set up the second Greyhound tally. Justin Ingram took the free kick, and his effort into the box was headed powerfully by Brown into the top left corner to make it 2-0. Brown registered his first goal of 2019, while Ingram picks up his first point with the program after transferring in from Virginia.

Brown nearly picked up a second goal in the 80th minute, but he was ruled to be offsides prior to beating Schachner from the right side. The Loyola backline surrendered just two shots over the final 15 minutes of regulation, both of which were stopped by Vosvick.

The Greyhounds (1-4) earn their first win of the season in their fourth contest against a 2018 NCAA tournament opponent. Princeton slips to 1-2 on the year.

Loyola can now look ahead to its Patriot League opener, as the back-to-back conference regular season champions host Army West Point at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Ridley.
