Brown’s Top-10 Finish Leads Golf Against Nationally-Ranked Field

Evan Brown tied for ninth in a nationally-ranked field at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Loyola University Maryland's Evan Brown posted three rounds in the 60s and finished tied for ninth against a nationally-prominent field Tuesday as the Greyhounds closed their competition at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational.

Brown had eight pars wrapped around eight pars in his final nine holes to shoot 2-under 68, giving him three under-par rounds of 68, 69 and 68 to finish tied for ninth at 5-under 209.

As a team, the Greyhounds shot 9-over on the course Tuesday and finished 11th at 8-over par, six shots back of former NCAA Champion Augusta.

Washington, which entered the week ninth in GolfWeek.com's Men's Collegiate Team Rankings, won the tournament at 30-under par, nine shots up on host and Golfweek's current No. 1 team, Wake Forest.

Louisville, No. 7 entering the week, and No. 17 West Virginia tied for third at 12-under, while No. 14 Penn State was fifth at 6-under. East Carolina and Cincinnati were one and two shots back, respectively, in sixth and seventh places, while Rutgers and Georgia Southern finished ninth and 10th at even-par and 1-over. Following Augusta and Loyola, Yale was 12th at 11-over, and Virginia Tech finished 13th at 17-over.

Brown started his third round off No. 10 and after parring that first hole, he double-bogeyed the par-3 11th. He came right back with birdies on two of the next three holes to even his score for the day, and a birdie on the 557-yard par-5 17th, his eighth hole of the morning, moved him to 1-under.

In addition to Brown's 2-under on Tuesday, Preston Ball had an even-par round for the Greyhounds. He eagled the par-5 17th to get to 1-under on the day before making the turn to the front-nine. A bogey on the third hole brought him level, but he birdies the next three holes to drop to 3-under before a triple-bogey on the eighth, his 17th, hole gave him an even-par score for the remainder of the day.

Brandon Berry shot 5-over, while Carlo Pizzano was 6-over and Nick Mejia 8-over on Tuesday.

Berry finished the tournament tied for 46th, Peel was tied for 54th, Mejia tied for 64th and Pizzano tied for 67th.

Loyola will take two weeks off from competition before heading to Long Island to host the Hampton Intercollegiate at Maidstone Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and 8.
