POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Kristen Prevosto headed in the game-winning goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation, helping Marist complete a 2-1 comeback victory over Loyola University Maryland women's soccer on Sunday afternoon.
The Greyhounds jumped in front on a long-distance curling effort by
Hannah Hoefs just 6:23 into the contest, and they maintained that lead into the final 15 minutes of the contest.
Marist (3-2) tied the score on a penalty kick conversion by Kaylin Sperley with 14:01 remaining. The go-ahead sequence began with a throw-in on the left side of the field. Victoria Colatosti sent a cross into the box, which Prevosto was able to tuck into the top right corner.
Sarah Bayer set up Loyola's opening strike, with Hoefs finding the top corner from 30 yards out for her team-leading third goal of the season. Hoefs has now contributed to four of Loyola's five goals in the early stages of 2019, while Bayer recorded her first assist of the season.
In addition to their lead on the scoreboard, the Greyhounds held advantages in shots (5-3) and corner kicks (6-3) through the opening 45 minutes. Marist, though, took seven of the game's nine shots after the intermission, including the final six attempts of the contest.
This was the first meeting between the former MAAC rivals since 2012, when Loyola topped the Red Foxes by a 2-1 margin to claim their 10th and final MAAC championship prior to joining the Patriot League.
The Greyhounds (1-4) return to Ridley Athletic Complex on Friday night, hosting VMI for a matchup scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
