BALTIMORE – Loyola remains on the road Wednesday night, traveling to Boston University for a 6 p.m. matchup. Facing opponents who are a combined 12-4 in Patriot League play, the Greyhounds have dropped their first four conference games by a combined 15 points.
Last Time Out
- Emily McAteer (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Stephanie Karcz (10 points, 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles, but it was not enough for the Greyhounds in a 55-52 overtime defeat at Lafayette on Saturday.
- McAteer's double-double was the first of her collegiate career. She set season-highs in both rebounds and minutes played (34).
- Loyola, which rallied from an early 15-2 deficit, was limited to two points over the final 7:26 of game action.
- Laryn Edwards added 12 points, five rebounds and three steals in the defeat, reaching double figures for a third-consecutive game.
- Drew Freeland scored a game-high 19 points for the Leopards (6-8, 2-2), while Natalie Kucowski supplied 10 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks and five assists.
Series History
- Boston U leads 7-6 in a series which began when Loyola joined the Patriot League in 2013-14.
- Loyola earned a 59-55 victory in the most-recent meeting at BU on March 6 last season. Taleah Dixon led the way for the Greyhounds with 20 points in 26 minutes off the bench.
- BU had won four of the previous five matchups prior to that Loyola victory.
Scouting Boston U
- The Terriers (7-8, 2-2 Patriot League) are coming off a 72-66 victory at Army West Point on Sunday. Katie Nelson had a team-high 19 points, while Nia Irving recorded the 1,000th point of her collegiate career.
- BU has won each of its last three home games, including a 59-44 Patriot League triumph over American on Jan. 5.
- Nelson, who leads the Terriers with an average of 13.9 ppg, ranks second nationally in minutes per game (38.9).
- Maggie Pina, who follows Nelson at 10.9 ppg, received back-to-back Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards on Dec. 16 and Dec. 23. She totaled a season-high 26 points in a 59-57 defeat at Lafayette on Jan. 2.
Karcz Approaching Major Steals Milestone
- Stephanie Karcz is only one steal away from becoming the 27th player in Division I history to reach 400 for her collegiate career.
- Karcz continues to lead DI with 5.9 steals per game (88 total); she is one of just three players in DI averaging over four per contest. Karcz recorded 6+ thefts in 10 consecutive games from Nov. 13 - Jan. 2.
- Karcz is one of two active players in Division I with 1,000 career points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals. She has 1,101 career points (14th all-time at Loyola), 939 career rebounds (4th at Loyola), 348 career assists (7th at Loyola), 25 career double-doubles, three triple doubles and 11 games with 20+ points.
- Other steals records potentially within reach include her own Loyola single-season record (123 in 2018-19) and the Patriot League single-season record of 168, which was established by Lafayette's Heidi Caruso in 1992-93.
Weekly Honor for McAteer
- Emily McAteer was recognized Monday as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after averaging 14.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game against a pair of conference opponents.
- She becomes the first Loyola player to take home the award since Taleah Dixon on Dec. 10 last season.
- McAteer shot 5 for 10 from the field in both games. She has been Loyola's top offensive performer since the start of Patriot League play, averaging 14.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 44.4% (8 for 18) from 3-point range in four conference tilts.
- McAteer totaled a season-best 18 points (4-8 3FG) and seven boards in Loyola's conference opener against Holy Cross on Jan. 2.
