Hayburn Chosen as Patriot League’s Male Swimmer of the Week

In addition to his freestyle success, Jimmy Hayburn is the school record holder in the 50 butterfly.
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland sophomore Jimmy Hayburn, who won the 50-yard freestyle for a ninth time this season during the Greyhounds' dual with La Salle yesterday, was announced as the Patriot League's Male Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Hayburn (Bowie, Md./St. Mary's) becomes the first Loyola men's swimmer to receive a weekly award since Ben Cono was recognized on Dec. 5, 2017. He beat out 18 other competitors with a time of 21.13 in Monday's 50 free. He also contributed to a pair of runner-up relay squads and placed third overall in the 100 free (47.58).

For the year, Hayburn ranks second among Patriot League swimmers in the 50 free with a season-best mark of 20.36. He is also 11th in the 100 free with a top time of 45.63.

Hayburn is the individual school record holder in the 50 butterfly (22.50), and he is a part of school-record relays in the 200 medley, 400 medley and 200 free events.

Devin Cronin, who was part of three race wins for the women on Monday, including individual victories in the 100 and 200 breaststroke competitions, was selected as an honorable mention selection for this week's Patriot League awards.

The Greyhounds have two more duals scheduled prior to this year's Patriot League Championships from Feb. 19-22, beginning with a home matchup against Towson at 5 p.m. on Friday.
