BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's basketball is on the road for a fourth time in the last five games on Wednesday, traveling to Army West Point for a Patriot League matchup beginning at 6 p.m. The Greyhounds will be looking to complete a season sweep after winning the first meeting by a 68-59 final back on Jan. 18.
Last Time Out
- Stephanie Karcz poured in 26 points, finishing one shy of her career high, but Loyola was unable to recover from a slow start in a 79-70 defeat at Colgate on Saturday.
- The Raiders (17-7, 9-4 Patriot League) never trailed after starting the contest on a 16-2 run.
- Karcz hit 12 of 18 shots from the field while recording 20+ points for a 12th time at Loyola. She also added eight rebounds and five steals in the defeat. The first of her eight boards put her in sole possession of No. 2 all-time in program history.
- Alexis Gray chipped in 12 points and a pair of steals for the Greyhounds.
- Tegan Graham had a team-high 22 points for Colgate, which is now 11-1 at home this season.
Series History
- Army leads 12-7 in a series which dates back to 2008.
- The Greyhounds have now won two-straight games over the Black Knights after dropping 11 of the previous 12 meetings.
- Stephanie Karcz (13 points, 12 rebounds, 12 steals, seven assists) recorded her third-career triple-double and finished three assists shy of the sixth quadruple-double in DI history during Loyola's 68-59 win over Army in January.
- The Greyhounds never trailed after leading by as many as 19 points (35-16) in the opening half.
Scouting Army
- The Black Knights (5-19, 1-12 Patriot League) are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, a stretch which began with their loss at Loyola.
- Army's lone Patriot League win was a 61-48 home triumph over Holy Cross on Jan. 15.
- Leading scorer Lindsey Scamman (12.3 ppg) contributed a team-high 17 points in Saturday's 89-72 defeat at Lehigh.
- Army ranks last in the Patriot League in points allowed (72.9 ppg), scoring margin (-11.0), FT% (63.2), assists per game (11.4), steals per game (5.4) and turnover margin (-6.8).
Season Scoring High for Karcz
- Stephanie Karcz's 26 points at Colgate surpassed her previous season-best of 24, which was established at St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 24. It was just one-shy of her career-high of 27, set at Marquette on Nov. 19, 2017.
- Karcz has now reached 20+ points three times this season, and she has scored in double figures in 17 out of Loyola's 24 contests.
Connolly, McAteer Stepping Up on the Glass
- Delaney Connolly and Emily McAteer have both grabbed 6+ rebounds in each of Loyola's last four games.
- Connolly set a new season high with eight boards on Saturday, while McAteer matched a season best with 10 rebounds in the Greyhounds' road matchup at Bucknell on Feb. 8.
- Loyola has out-rebounded its opponent in four of the last six games. The Greyhounds are 5-3 this season when winning the battle on the glass.
Karcz Continues to Top Nation in Steals
- Stephanie Karcz has led Division I in steals per game for a majority of the season. She is currently averaging 5.4 thefts through Loyola's first 24 contests.
- Karcz's 130 steals this season are the fourth most in Patriot League single-season history; she has recorded 100+ steals in each of the last three years.
- The NCAA's active leader in steals (441), Karcz is ranked 14th overall in DI history. Next up on the all-time list are Indiana State's Melanie Boeglin (444) and UConn's Nykesha Sales (449).
- Karcz was one of 15 players across DI selected to the Naismith Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year Midseason Team back in late January.
- Karcz is one of two players nationally with multiple triple-doubles on the year, joining Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu. She has four triple-doubles overall in her collegiate career.
- Karcz's 12 thefts against Army on Jan. 18 were the most by a DI player this season, were tied for Loyola's program record, and were the most ever in a Patriot League game.
