WEST POINT, N.Y. – Hope Brown and Alisa Fallon scored 16 points apiece, as Army West Point totaled 48 points in the final 14 minutes of regulation to top Loyola University Maryland by a 75-55 final on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds (7-18, 4-10 Patriot League) held a 39-27 advantage with under four minutes remaining in the third quarter, but the Black Knights (6-19, 2-12) closed that frame on an 18-5 run and outscored the visitors 30-11 in the fourth.
Alexis Gray totaled 15 points, three assists and three steals to lead the way for Loyola, while
Delaney Connolly chipped in 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the floor.
It was 24-21, Greyhounds, coming out of the intermission, and the visitors took their first double-digit lead at 35-25 following a layup by
Hannah Niles with 5:27 left. After Army answered with a basket on the other end, back-to-back layups from Gray have Loyola its largest lead of 12.
Natalie Stralkus sank four of Army's five 3-pointers during its extended run to end the quarter, while Fallon had 14 of the Black Knights' 30 points in the fourth. Army hit 8 of 12 attempts from 3-point range over the final 14 minutes after starting the game 5 for 20 from long distance.
The Black Knights snap an eight-game losing streak and avoid a season sweep after Loyola came out on top by a 68-59 at Reitz Arena back in January.
The Greyhounds return to Baltimore on Saturday, hosting Lafayette at 4 p.m. on Senior Day. Gray, Niles,
Stephanie Karcz and
Molly Taylor will be recognized in a pregame ceremony prior to tip-off.
