Final Results
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Emma Schouten finished as the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke, and four additional school records fell for Loyola University Maryland on the final day of this year's Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Greyhound men finished the meet in third place, their best-ever result since joining the conference, with 391 points, while the women took sixth place with 302 points.
Max Verheyen was honored as the Male Rookie of the Meet, while
Brian Loeffler was chosen as Male Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the competition. The two teams combined for 19 school records across the meet's four days.
Emily Koegl and
Sung Lee posted the new individual school records in their respective 200 butterfly competitions, while
Jimmy Hayburn broke a nine-year old Loyola mark in the 100 freestyle. The men's 400 free relay of
Brendon Kolar, Verheyen,
Jonathan Brooks and Hayburn ended the meet by breaking an 11-year record with a fifth-place time of 3:00.71.
Schouten reached the podium for a third-consecutive year in the 200 breast, and she repeated her second-place performance from last winter. Schouten's 'A' final time of 2:14.37 was just 0.07 back of Army's Gillian Burch in first.
Devin Cronin followed in eighth place, as yesterday's 100 breast champion finished tonight's race in 2:19.35.
Koegl first broke her own 200 fly record in the preliminary round (2:00.90), and she lowered that time down to 2:00.27 while placing fifth in the evening session. Koegl finishes her final conference meet with top-five performances in all three individual races, as she was previously third in the 100 fly and fifth in the 200 individual medley.
Elizabeth Walsh added an additional point for the Greyhounds after placing 16th (2:05.55) in the 'B' final.
Lee also broke his own record in the men's 200 fly; he completed the 'A' final in 1:48.81 to take fourth place overall.
Reid Hussey added a strong time of 1:49.00, placing ninth after winning the 'B' final but recording a quicker time than four 'A' finalists.
Zac Metzler tacked on two additional points in 15th place (1:52.11).
Hayburn's school record came during the preliminary round of the 100 free, as his heat time of 44.42 was under Scott Heil's old mark of 44.81 from back in 2011. Hayburn, Thursday's champion in the 50 free, then completed the 100 free 'A' final in 44.60 to place fourth overall.
Colin Anderson added two points in the 'B' final, taking 15th with a time of 45.84.
Verheyen closed out his first Patriot League meet with another top-five effort, taking fifth place tonight with a time of 1:58.66 in the 200 breast. Verheyen was previously second in the 200 IM and third in the 400 IM, recording NCAA 'B' cut times in both events.
John Sakovich qualified for the 'B' final in the 200 breast, ultimately placing 14th with a mark of 2:04.40.
Megan Dickey and
Mark Boran also reached 'A' finals in the 100 free and 200 back, respectively. Dickey took sixth place (50.58) in her race while Boran was seventh (1:48.63).
Jack Still had another strong performance to lead the divers, as he took 10th in the 3-meter with 249.05 points.
Michael Culbert (121.95) added an additional point to the team score in 16th.
The 1,650 free began the evening session, with three Loyola swimmers scoring.
Nick Pacitti led the way with an eighth-place effort in the men's race, finishing the mile in 15:44.63.
Dylan Champagne was 16th (16:14.25) while
Elizabeth Romano was 15th (17:48.81) for the women.
Dickey,
Claire Bowser,
Faith Tyranski and
Anne Hayburn finished the night for the women with an eighth-place showing in the 400 free relay (3:29.36).
Navy took first place in both the men's and women's team standings. Bucknell was second on the women's side, while Army was second in the men's rankings.
