ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Tommy Noone,
Alejandro Basalo and
Brian Hess all qualified for 'B' finals, leading Loyola University Maryland on Day 1 of the three-day ECAC Championship meet hosted by Navy.
Noone and Basalo each made it to the evening session in the 500-yard freestyle. Noone was the No. 12 qualifier with a preliminary time of 4:38.37, and he ultimately placed 14th after completing the final in 4:41.83. Basalo followed in 15th (4:42.37) after posting a mark of 4:40.04 in the prelims.
Hess posted identical times in the morning and evening in the 50 free. He took 14th in the 'B' final after touching the wall in 20.97.
Jack Still was one of three competitors in the 1-meter diving competition, and he placed second with a score of 249.15 points. Still placed ninth in the 1-meter at last week's Patriot League Championships.
The Greyhounds swam in three relay finals in the evening, with the men's 200 free relay squad posting the best finish.
John Nguyen,
Jared Copeland,
Richard Kogut and
Sean Keller took seventh in that race with a time of 1:25.94.
Michelle Lebed,
Anne Hayburn,
Jen DeGroat and
Sarah Abril were 10th in the women's 200 free relay (1:39.42), while Hayburn, Lebed,
Hailey Goodyear and DeGroat were 11th in the 400 medley relay (4:03.22).
Bennett Loniewski just missed out on the 500 free 'B' final, as he took 18th place in the preliminaries with a time of 4:43.55.
Brett Legambi followed in 22nd place (4:44.58), while
Matt Voight (24th, 1:54.34) and
Josh Walker (25th, 1:54.40) cracked the top 25 in the 200 IM.
Hayburn was the top individual women's finisher, placing 27th in the 50 free with a mark of 24.54. Lebed led the way in the 200 IM (34th, 2:14.82) and
Elizabeth Fetherston was 37th in the 500 free (5:30.01).
Day 2 of the competition begins with preliminary swims at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with finals to follow at 6 p.m.
