Women’s Basketball Falls 82-64 at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Delaney Connolly recorded her first collegiate double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but hot outside shooting from Lehigh sent Loyola University Maryland to a 82-64 road defeat on Sunday afternoon.

The Mountain Hawks (17-11, 9-8 Patriot League) shot 43.8 percent from 3-point range, hitting 14 of 32 attempts from long distance. Paige Galiani accounted for six of those makes, and she finished the contest with a game-high 18 points.

Connolly set season-highs in both points and rebounds, as she reached double figures in scoring for a 10th time on the year. The junior forward hit 7 of 13 shots from the field overall. Laryn Edwards added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Stephanie Karcz supplied 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

The second of Karcz's steals moved her past seven-time WNBA All-Star and former UConn standout Nykesha Sales for No. 12 all-time in Division I history. She is now at 448 career thefts through 117 collegiate appearances.

This afternoon's result locks Loyola (8-20, 5-12) into the No. 8 seed for next week's Patriot League Tournament. The Greyhounds will host No. 9 Army West Point in a first-round game at Reitz Arena at 5 p.m. next Saturday.

A Bri Rozzi 3-pointer put Loyola up by a 14-13 margin with 4:01 remaining in the first quarter. Lehigh, though, used a 10-0 run over the next 8+ minutes of game action to jump in front for good. The Mountain Hawks held a 37-27 advantage at the break and led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Hannah Niles also reached double figures for the Greyhounds with 10 points, while Alexis Gray contributed nine points on 4 of 7 shooting before departing with an injury.

The Mountain Hawks complete a season sweep and win their fifth-straight in the series between the two sides.

Loyola concludes the regular season on Wednesday, traveling to Holy Cross for a matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
