The Matchup

  • Loyola men's soccer is back on the road for its next two games, beginning with a 2:30 p.m. matchup against Boston University on Saturday.
  • The game will be played at nearby Parsons Field on the campus of Northeastern University due to a scheduling conflict at BU's stadium.

Last Time Out

  • Kelan Swales (2 G, 1 A) totaled a career-high five points, and Jordan Wiley netted his first goal of the season in the first half during a dominant 3-0 victory for Loyola over William & Mary on Wednesday.
  • The Greyhounds snapped a 10-game winless run in the series, posting their first victory over the Tribe (2-4-0) since 1998 in convincing fashion.
  • Wiley, who had the primary assist on Swales' first goal in the second half, also set a career best with three points, while Justin Ingram added a pair of helpers for the home side.
  • Swales and Ingram set up what turned out to be the game-winner for Wiley in the 23rd minute, as a cross from the right side was deflected by goalkeeper Will Stack off Wiley and into the back of the net.
  • Loyola controlled the game throughout, ending the night with a 13-4 edge in shots and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.
  • Chase Vosvick needed to make just one save, on a strong diving effort in the 58th minute, to secure the clean sheet in goal for Loyola.
Series History
  • Loyola leads 4-3-3 in a series which dates back to 1987.
  • The Greyhounds are 3-2-2 against the Terriers since joining the Patriot League in 2013, and they enter the weekend having won each of the last three meetings.
  • Josh Fawole (2 G, 1 A) factored in all three goals during a 3-0 win for Loyola in the last matchup on Nov. 2, 2019 at Boston U. The Greyhounds, who scored all three of their goals in the second half, held the Terriers without a single shot on goal in the contest.
  • Boston U's last victory in the series was a 2-1 home triumph on Oct. 10, 2015.
Scouting Boston U
  • The Terriers (1-6-1, 1-2-0 PL) began conference play with a 1-0 upset win over Navy on Sept. 18, handing the Mids (7-1-1, 2-1-0 PL) what continues to be their only defeat of the season.
  • Since that victory, Boston U has been shutout in back-to-back road defeats to Lafayette (1-0, OT) and Army West Point (2-0).
  • The Terriers have been limited to five goals in their first eight contests. Their 0.62 goals per game ranks eighth overall among Patriot League schools.
  • Jr. M Quinn Matulis scored the game-winner from the penalty spot against Navy. He and Fr. M Brian Hernandez lead the offense with two goals apiece on the year.

Quick Notes Entering the Weekend

  • Kelan Swales (3 G, 2 A) and Justin Ingram (2 G, 4 A) are now tied for the team lead in scoring with eight points apiece. Ingram's 0.57 assists per game lead the Patriot League and are ranked 22nd nationally.
  • Swales also had the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute of Loyola's 2-1 victory at Lehigh on Sept. 18. He has 12 points (3 G, 6 A) in his first 14 games at Loyola.
  • Twenty different Loyola players, including seven of the program's 12 new additions to the roster for 2021, have started at least one game this season. Jordan Wiley was the latest new addition to the starting lineup during Wednesday night's victory.
  • Albert Kang and Loc San added assists in Loyola's win over William & Mary, with the duo helping set up Swales' second goal of the game in the 61st minute.
  • Matthew Lala (2 G) is one of three Greyhounds with multiple goals on the year. He had the game-winner in Loyola's season-opening 2-0 win over UC Irvine, and added a late equalizer in the second half of a 2-2 draw at Penn on Sept. 13.
  • Sean Graham and Jordy Luchies are the only two Loyola players to start each of the season's first eight games.

Vosvick Announced as Candidate for 2021 Senior CLASS Award

  • Gr. GK Chase Vosvick was one of 30 Division I men's soccer student-athletes across the country revealed on Thursday as a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award.
  • To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate-student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
  • One of three team captains, Vosvick is 3-2-1 on the year with a miniscule 0.48 goals-against average (14th in Division I) and a .864 save percentage (13th).

Greyhounds Earn Draw at No. 5 West Virginia

  • Chase Vosvick matched a career-high with seven saves, including several highlight-reel efforts, and Loyola was even in shots with nationally-ranked West Virginia for the final 65 minutes of a 0-0 draw between the two sides on Sept. 6.
  • West Virginia was coming off back-to-back victories over No. 3 Pittsburgh (2-1) and No. 17 Penn State (3-1), but was held off the scoresheet for the first time this season.
  • Shots were even at 6-6 after halftime, including a 5-4 edge for Loyola in the second half. Alex Bobocea played the final 1:05 in goal after Vosvick left due to injury.
  • Loyola was playing its first ranked opponent since earning a 1-1 draw at then-No. 2 Wake Forest back on Oct. 22, 2019.

Loyola Tops Patriot League Preseason Poll

  • For a fourth time in the past five seasons, Loyola has been projected to finish atop the Patriot League standings, as the Greyhounds (149 points, 10 first-place votes) edged American (137, 7) for the top spot in the conference's preseason poll.
  • Loyola returns all primary starters from the 2021 spring campaign, including the Patriot League's Offensive Player (Sam Brown), Midfielder (Justin Ingram) and Goalkeeper (Chase Vosvick) of the Year.
  • The Greyhounds are 31-12-5 overall against Patriot League opponents in the last five years under head coach Steve Nichols.
Preseason Patriot League Honorees

  • All three of Loyola's Spring 2021 major award winners were recognized on the Preseason All-PL Team, with Ingram joined by Sam Brown and Chase Vosvick..
  • Brown was a second team United Soccer Coaches All-Region performer last season after ranking second on the team with six points (2 G, 2 A). He was the program's first Patriot League Offensive POY since Loyola joined the conference in 2013.
  • Vosvick is now a four-time Preseason All-League selection. He earned his third PL Goalkeeper of the Year honor in the spring after finishing 3-1-1 with a 0.92 goals-against average and .722 save percentage.
