BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Abby Hamilton put away a season-high 21 kills Friday night, leading the Loyola University Maryland volleyball to a 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 victory over host Lehigh University at Grace Hall in Patriot League action.
The senior outside hitter logged her ninth-straight game with 12 or more kills, equaling the length of the Greyhounds' current program-best winning streak.
Cat Vaccaro added 12 kills, and
Lauren Link had nine for Loyola (12-3 overall, 4-0 Patriot League).
Hamilton had five first-set kills as Loyola hit .387 in the frame. The Greyhounds used a 6-1 lead to turn a 6-5 deficit into an 11-7 lead. Loyola led had a 17-12 advantage before a 6-0 run put the set out of reach.
The second set saw the Greyhounds' hitting percentage come back to .086, but Hamilton still put away seven kills in the stanza. Loyola led 17-9 on a
Kacy Sekunda kill before the Mountain Hawks would go on a 14-7 run to close within a point, 24-23. After a Greyhounds timeout, Loyola forced a Lehigh hitting miscue to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Lehigh would then win the third, but the Greyhounds used an 8-0 run in the fourth to go up 19-8 on a
Cecylia Guye kill. The Mountain Hawks battle back to within three late, but a Vaccaro kill put away the match for the Greyhounds.
Sekunda had a match-high 42 assists, and Guye led the Greyhounds with four blocks.
Loyola posted 80 digs in the four-set match with
Katie Forsythe's 22 leading the way. Link added 17, while Hamilton and
Corinne Filograna each had 14 and Sekunda pulled up 10.
The Greyhounds stay in the Lehigh Valley for their next match, a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday at Lafayette College.
