BEALLSVILLE, Md. –
Brandon Berry shot rounds of 65 and 66 on Sunday, carding 15 birdies on his way to a 36-hole total of 11-under, leading the Loyola University Maryland golf team to a 21-stroke lead through 36 holes at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.
Berry matched his collegiate low score in the first round with a 6-under 65, and he finished his second round at the Four Streams Club a bogey on his final hole – the course's ninth – shy of duplicating that score.
Two other Greyhounds,
Brett Inserra and
Mike Crowley, are in the top-10 of the tournament after two rounds in ties for fourth and eighth, respectively.
As a team, the Greyhounds shot rounds of 9- and 10-under and their score of 19-under 549 has them 21 shots up on second-place Howard, 22 on Campbell.
Matt Malits had 17 pars in his first round and finished 1-over before shooting 4-over in the second to tie for 28
th after 36 holes.
Jackson Roman is tied for 39
th as Loyola's fifth scorer after shooting the best round of his young collegiate career, carding a 1-under 70 in the second round.
Berry opened the tournament on the course's back nine, recording a par and a bogey before stringing together five birdies in seven holes to make the turn at 4-under. He the sandwiched a birdie on the second hole between bogeys on the first and third, but he came back with three birdies on the next four holes to finish the round at 6-under.
In the next round, He posed six birdies and 11 pars through his first 17 holes before bogeying the par-4 ninth hole.
Inserra started his first round with a double bogey six on the 12
th hole and a bogey on the 13
th, but those were his last over-par holes of the round as he got back to even before making the turn to the front nine before he was 2-under on the front.
In his second round, he had a bogey on his second hole, the 13
th, but he then had five birdies around 12 pars to shoot 4-under and get to 6-under for the tournament.
Crowley bogeyed two of his first three holes, the 15
th and 16
th, but he then had five birdies on his next eight holes and shot his best collegiate round, 2-under 69. He came back in the afternoon and shot an even-par 71.
The Greyhounds will start Monday's final round at 9:30 a.m. from the first hole, playing with competitors from Howard and Campbell.
