Men’s Soccer Pulls Away from American, Secures 3-0 Win at Ridley

BALTIMORE – Kelan Swales and Justin Ingram scored 48 seconds apart midway through the second half, breaking open what had been a one-goal game and sending Loyola University Maryland to a key 3-0 win over American on Tuesday night.

The Greyhounds (5-5-2, 3-2 PL) snapped a two-game losing streak and moved into a tie for fourth place in the Patriot League standings. They also avenged a defeat to the defending conference champion Eagles (4-4-3, 2-2-1 PL) in last season's semifinal round.

Daniel Tshiani opened the scoring for the home side in the 17th minute, while Chase Vosvick made two saves in goal to earn his 24th career shutout. Ingram (1 G, 2 A) and Tshiani (1 G, 1 A) both set season-highs with four and three points, respectively.

Loyola's first goal came after Albert Kang drew a foul right on the edge of the box. Ingram's ensuing corner was stopped by a diving Dominic Dominguez, but he directed the rebound towards Tshiani for an easy tap-in.

American's longest run of possession came in the early stages of the second half. The visitors had a 5-1 edge in shots during that 15-minute period, with three of those efforts off target and the remaining two stopped by Vosvick.

Swales goal swung the momentum back in favor of the Greyhounds. Passes by Ingram and Tshiani gave him possession on the left edge of the box, and he blasted an effort into the left corner for his fifth goal of the season.

That briefly gave him the team's goal scoring lead, but Ingram quickly matched Swales with his fifth goal less than a minute later. He was given a second penalty opportunity after Jake Mayer drew a foul in the box, and this time sent an effort straight down the middle past Dominguez.

Loyola's defense shutdown the Eagles for the remainder of the second half, helping Vosvick register his fourth solo clean sheet of the season.

The Greyhounds close out a three-game homestand with another important Patriot League matchup on Saturday, when they host conference-leading Navy (9-1-1, 4-1-0 PL) at 5 p.m.
