Men’s Soccer Scores in Each Half, Knocks Off Navy 2-0

BALTIMORE – Daniel Tshiani opened the scoring on a highlight-reel goal in the 20th minute, and he drew a penalty which led to an insurance strike by Justin Ingram in the closing seconds of a 2-0 victory for Loyola University Maryland over Navy on Saturday.

The Greyhounds (6-5-2, 4-2 PL) move ahead of the Midshipmen (9-2-1, 4-2 PL) in the Patriot League standings after handing the visitors just their second defeat of the season. They have now won three of their last four conference games, posting clean sheets in all three victories.

Chase Vosvick made two saves, both in the first half, to post his fifth shutout this season and 25th overall at Loyola. The first of those stops was a point blank effort on Navy's Jason Aoyama in the 12th minute to keep the game scoreless early on.

The Mids had shutout the opponent in six of their previous eight games, but Tshiani used a strong individual effort to put the home side in front midway through the first half. He stole the ball from a Navy defender well outside the box, and quickly spun around for a right-footed blast into the lower left corner. The goal was Tshiani's third of the fall, and it was only the seventh allowed by Navy in 12 games.

The Greyhounds had two initial chances to extend their lead after the intermission, but Jonathan Sousa had an attempt rattle off the crossbar while Tony Saldana's effort was tipped away by goalkeeper Tyler Fahning.

Navy had four shot attempts in the second half, but none were directed on target. Tshiani and Ingram sealed the victory with eight seconds remaining, as Tshiani was fouled by a charging Fahning in the box and Ingram sent the resulting penalty into the right corner.

Ingram's goal was his team-leading sixth of the year, and he has scored in four of Loyola's last five games overall. With the win, the Greyhounds improved to 5-1-0 in their last six games against the Mids.

Loyola has its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday, traveling to Wake Forest for a matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
