BALTIMORE –
Sarah Bayer scored her second goal of the season in the 38th minute, cancelling out Bucknell's opening strike and helping Loyola University Maryland play to a 1-1 draw with a Bison squad that entered Wednesday tied for first in the Patriot League.
The Greyhounds (6-5-3, 3-1-2 PL) earn a result against Bucknell (7-6-2, 4-1-1 PL) for a third-consecutive season and remain in third place in the conference standings with 11 points. Bucknell's 13 points are now two back of leaders Boston University (9-5-1, 5-1-0 PL).
Jess Korman and
Sarah Mirr assisted on Bayer's goal, while
Paige Sim made five saves for the home side.
Rylee Donaldson, the Patriot League points leader entering the evening, opened the scoring for the Bison in the 28th minute. She sent a low shot into the left side of goal off a corner from Teresa Deda for her ninth tally of the fall. Deda's assist was also her conference-leading eighth of the year.
Loyola's goal sequence began with Korman finding Mirr on the right side near midfield. Mirr then directed a long ball towards the top of the box to Bayer, who out-muscled a Bucknell defender and powered a left-footed shot into the right corner. The program's active scoring leader, Bayer has 27 career points (11 G, 5 A) in 53 appearances for the Greyhounds.
Bayer also had the best chance for either side in the second half, but her shot off a free kick in the 69th minute was stopped by a diving Jenna Hall. Sim then made two of her five stops in overtime to secure a point for Loyola.
Bucknell had a 22-7 edge in shots, though only six of those attempts landed on target. The Bison also earned 14 of the game's 18 corner kicks.
The Greyhounds are back at Ridley on Saturday afternoon, hosting Lehigh at 1 p.m. in their regular season home finale. Seniors Bayer, Mirr,
Gillian Borton,
Kaleigh Gallagher and
Grace Li will all be recognized in a pregame ceremony.
