BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland accounted for four of the five Patriot League men's soccer weekly awards announced by the conference office on Monday, with
Daniel Tshiani (Offensive Player of the Week),
Justin Ingram (Midfielder),
Jacob Denison (Defensive Player) and
Chase Vosvick (Goalkeeper) all recognized after contributing to a pair of shutout victories.
Loyola topped defending Patriot League champions American by a 3-0 final on Tuesday, and added a 2-0 win against a Navy squad which entered the weekend in first place on Saturday. The Greyhounds (6-5-2, 4-2 PL) rose to second in the Patriot League standings with the victories.
Tshiani factored in four of Loyola's five goals on the week, delivering the game-winning strike in both contests. He had a season-high three points vs. American, opening the scoring in the 17th minute and recording the primary assist on a
Kelan Swales tally in the second half. Tshiani then put Loyola in front against the Mids in the 20th minute after stealing the ball from a Navy defender, spinning around and blasting a low effort into the left corner from well outside the box. He would later draw a penalty in the final minute which led to Loyola's late insurance goal.
Ingram also contributed to four of the Greyhounds' goals. He matched a career high with four points (1 G, 2 A) against American, assisting on the first two strikes and converting from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute. Ingram added another PK goal with eight seconds remaining on Saturday. He leads the Patriot League in goals (6), assists (7) and points (19) and has 13 points (4 G, 5 A) in Loyola's last six games overall.
Denison was a key contributor to a backline which surrendered just four shots on goal during the two victories. He played 154 out of a possible 180 minutes at center back, including all 90 vs. Navy. Denison helped Loyola shutout a Navy squad which had scored 12 goals (three in each game) during a four-game winning streak entering the weekend, and he aided a defensive effort which allowed the Greyhounds to become only the second team this season to post a clean sheet against American.
When a shot did manage to reach target, Vosvick was up to the task in goal, as he made a pair of saves in each of Loyola's two wins. He made both of his stops against the Eagles early in the second half when the Greyhounds were holding on to a one-goal advantage, and he had one save in each half against Navy. Vosvick's shutout on Saturday was the 25th of his Loyola career. He is now 6-4-1 this season with five shutouts, a 0.65 goals-against average and a .788 save percentage.
Tshiani and Denison both receive their first career Patriot League weekly awards. Ingram is honored for a fifth time at Loyola, while Vosvick is now a 14-time weekly award winner (11x Goalkeeper of the Week, 3x Rookie of the Week).
The Greyhounds are on the road for a pair of games this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup at Wake Forest on Tuesday night.
