Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hutton, E. Gallagher Score in 2-0 Win for Women’s Soccer Over Lafayette

BALTIMORE – Kelly Hutton opened the scoring in the 37th minute, and Elizabeth Gallagher netted her first collegiate goal with 2:23 remaining to secure a 2-0 victory for Loyola University Maryland over Lafayette on Saturday.

Paige Sim added three saves in goal while registering her fourth clean sheet of the season for the Greyhounds (5-5-2, 2-1-1 PL), who handed the Leopards (2-8-0, 0-4-0 PL) a fourth-straight defeat.

There was only one shot on goal for either side in the first 35 minutes of play, a 26th minute effort by Kaleigh Gallagher which was stopped by Natalie Neumann. Hutton's goal came after a Lafayette foul on the left side of the field. Arín Sigfúsdóttir took the ensuing free kick, and her drive into the box was headed by Hutton straight into the right corner.

Hutton scored for the second time this fall, while Sigfúsdóttir recorded her first collegiate point on the play.

Lafayette had several opportunities to level the score in the second half, including a shot off the crossbar by Melissa Lamanna in the 48th minute, but six of the Leopards' nine attempts were sent off target and the remaining three were corralled by Sim in goal.

Gallagher provided a key insurance tally for the Greyhounds in the 88th minute. Jess Korman intercepted a Lafayette pass on the left side and led her freshman teammate in towards the box. Gallagher then chipped an attempt past a charging Neumann and into the right corner.

Sim's shutout was her 12th in 30 collegiate starts. She is now 4-2-1 with a 0.56 GAA and .852 save percentage in seven games at Ridley Athletic Complex this season.

Loyola improves to 4-0-0 when scoring multiple goals this season. The Greyhounds are back on the road next weekend, traveling to Holy Cross for a 12 p.m. matchup next Saturday.
