Berry Ties School 36-Hole Scoring Record After Two Rounds On Maui

LAHAINA, Maui – Brandon Berry shot his fifth round of 66 or better this season on Saturday, carding a 5-under 66 at the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course to finish the second round in a tie for second at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate as the Loyola University Maryland golf team finished the day in fifth place as a unit.

His 36-hole total of 11-under is tied for Loyola's 36-hole scoring record, matching the score he posted after two rounds in the Greyhounds' last tournament, the Georgetown Intercollegiate, and Matt Oshrine's 2014 output at The Doc Gimmler.

Berry had his third eagle of the tournament on the course's first hole, posting a three on the 519-yard par-5 starting hole. He added birdies on the fourth, ninth, 14th and 16th holes around a bogey on the 15th to follow his 65 on Friday with a round one stroke higher.

He enters the final round tied with Cal State Northridge's Nick Fowlkes, one stroke back of Denver's Carson Griggs who leads the tournament at 12-under.

Loyola finished Saturday at 4-under 280 to move to 15-under 553 for the tournament. The Greyhounds' 36-hole score is the second best in school history, a stroke better than they were earlier this month at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.

Nick Mejia moved into a tie for 26th with a 1-under 70 on Saturday, birding his penultimate hole, the par-5 sixth to get into red numbers.

Carlo Pizzano had his second round of par or better at the tournament, shooting 1-under on the front nine of the course to finish even on Saturday and in a tie for 32nd overall at 1-under through 36.

Brett Inserra posted four birdies on the front nine and finished Saturday 2-over to tie for 36th; he is at even-par 142 after the first two rounds. Mike Crowley is tied with Inserra overall after shooting 2-over on Saturday thanks to an eagle on his final hole, the par-5 sixth.

Connor McGarrity had the second-best round of his collegiate career on Saturday, shooting even-par 70 as an individual.

Kansas, which is ranked 10th in the nation in the latest Golfweek rankings, leads the tournament at 38-under, while Colorado is in second place at 22-under. Cal State Northridge is third (-20), followed by Connecticut (-19) and Loyola (-15).

The final round starts Sunday at 8 a.m. (HDT) with a shotgun start.
