Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 at Home to Lafayette

BALTIMORE – Hale Lombard scored two goals late in the first half, and Lafayette held off a late offensive charge from Loyola University Maryland to earn a 2-1 road victory at Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday.

Justin Ingram scored his fourth goal of the season for the Greyhounds (4-5-2, 2-2-0 PL) after Loc San drew a penalty in the 87th minute. The Leopards (7-4-1, 3-1-1 PL) earned their first win in the series since 2014.

Lombard opened the scoring in the 39th minute, as he headed in a long throw from Will Echeverria to put the visitors in front. His second strike came with 27 seconds remaining before halftime. David Mizrahi's initial shot was stopped on the goal line by Kristinn Pétursson, but Lombard's rebound attempt just cleared the line to double the Lafayette advantage.

Loyola earned all four corner kicks in the second half while attempting to cut into the deficit, but Pétursson sent one header attempt high and Albert Kang had another header stopped by Alex Sutton in goal. Sutton finished the evening with five saves overall.

Thomas Zinngrebe made his first appearance in goal for the Greyhounds in the second half, stopping Lafayette's only shot on target to keep the home side within striking distance.

Ingram's four goals tie him with Kelan Swales for the team lead, while his 13 points (4 G, 5 A) pace the Greyhounds on the year.

Loyola remains at home for two games next week, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup against American on Tuesday night.
