WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point scored the match's first five points and carried its early momentum to a three-set win on Saturday, beating the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23.
The Black Knights had five players with sic or more kills, hitting .267 in the process.
Loyola took a 12-8 lead in the third set on a
Cecylia Guye kill, but Army West Point got back within one on a block by Paige Fixemer and Allanah Cutler at 13-12.
Lauren Link posted a kill to make it 18-15 Loyola, and one from
Abby Hamilton gave the Greyhounds a 19-17 advantage before
Adara Kellogg posted a kill at 20-18.
From there, however, Army West Point scored five in a row and led 23-20 after a Loyola attack error. Kellogg and
Cat Vaccaro had back-to-back kills for the Greyhounds to cut the deficit to 23-22 before an Army West Point gave the Black Knights match-point.
Vaccaro held that off with a kill for the Greyhounds, but a ball-handling error charged to Loyola ended the match.
Lauren Link had a team-high 13 kills for Loyola, and Vaccaro added 10.
Corinne Filograna posted 14 digs, and
Kacy Sekunda had 30 assists for the Greyhounds.
Loyola returns to Reitz Arena next weekend for two matches to close the regular season. It hosts Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 12, and Colgate on the following day at 4 p.m.
