BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its 11-member Academic All-League Team for men's soccer on Tuesday afternoon, with Loyola University Maryland leading the conference with three representatives.
Jacob Denison became the program's first four-time honoree, while
Chase Vosvick was a repeat selection and
Kelan Swales was chosen for the first time. To be considered for the award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter and/or key reserve for their team. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
All three Greyhounds were previously recognized as All-Patriot League performers last week. Vosvick and Swales were first team recipients, with Vosvick receiving his fourth Goalkeeper of the Year award, while Denison landed on the third team. Loyola is the top seed in this year's Patriot League tournament and will host No. 6 Army West Point in a semifinal matchup at 7 p.m. tonight.
Denison graduated from Loyola with a 3.72 grade-point average while majoring in business administration (economics/finance concentration), and he is now working towards an MBA in finance. He is a five-year contributor (63 gp/52 gs) for a Loyola team which has won or tied for the Patriot League regular season title in each of the last four seasons, while also adding a first-place finish in the South division during the Spring 2021 campaign. A center back for the Greyhounds, Denison aided a defensive unit which posted shutouts in eight of his 12 starts on the year.
Vosvick graduated with a 3.55 GPA as a sociology major, including 4.0 GPA's in each of his last three semesters, and he is working towards a Master of Arts in teaching. He has also been a major factor in Loyola's defensive success, recording a career high eight solo shutouts this fall while additionally playing 109 of 110 minutes in a scoreless draw with then-No. 5 West Virginia. He was dominant during conference play, posting a 7-2-0 record with six clean sheets, a 0.47 goals-against average and a .810 save percentage. Vosvick is 41-22-6 overall in his Loyola career with a Patriot League-record 28 shutouts, a 1.00 GAA and a .725 save percentage.
Swales holds a 3.55 grade-point average while majoring in communication with a focus in advertising and public relations. He repeated as a first team All-Patriot League performer after totaling 18 points (7 G, 4 A) during the regular season, including five goals and two assists in conference play. Swales ranks third in the conference in goals this fall, providing game-winning strikes in three of Loyola's seven Patriot League victories (Lehigh, Boston U, Colgate). He has 22 points (7 G, 8 A) in his first 23 games as a Greyhound after transferring from Appalachian State prior to the 2020-21 academic year.
Both of Loyola's soccer programs led the Patriot League in Academic All-League selections, as the women's team also had a conference-high three honorees last week. Army West Point senior goalkeeper Jacob Suppiah was announced as the Patriot League's Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
