SPARKS, Md. – Two Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse players were named to
USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-Americas this week as
Ryan McNulty was tabbed to the first team, and
Cam Wyers to the third.
Both players were unanimous All-American last year as McNulty was named to the second team by the USILA (coaches),
Inside Lacrosse, and
USA Lacrosse Magazine. Wyers earned third-team recognition by all three sources.
McNulty enters the 2022 season ranked seventh all-time at Loyola in career caused turnovers (70) and 13
th with 191 ground balls. He will be a team captain for the fourth time as he plays in his sixth season for the Greyhounds.
Last year, he earned All-Patriot League First Team and All-America honors for the second time as he finished tied for second on the team with 19 caused turnovers and third with 46 ground balls. He also continued to be a top transition player while he scored four goals and assisted on six more. Through his career with the Greyhounds, in which he has played in 58 games, he has 12 goals and 12 assists.
Wyers was one of the top cover defenders in college lacrosse again last season and picked up All-Patriot League recognition for the second time, his first time landing on the first team along with his first All-America honors.
He was the Greyhounds' top non-faceoff player with 59 ground balls, a career-high, and he matched McNulty for second on the team with 19 caused turnovers. Wyers also contributed to transition play with a goal and six assists during the year.
A three-year starter through his first three seasons at Loyola, Wyers has 93 career ground balls and 41 caused turnovers, good for 14
th all-time at the school.
The two defenders and the Greyhounds will start the 2022 season on Saturday, February 12, when they make the short trip to face the University of Maryland.
