Mead Sets School Record, Wins 200 IM for Swimming and Diving at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Loyola University Maryland freshman Lily Mead broke a three-year old school record in the 200-yard individual medley on Saturday, highlighting the Greyhounds performance in a dual with Patriot League powerhouse Navy.

Mead posted a time of 2:01.60 in her race, a mark which is over a second quicker than the previous record of 2:02.98 established by Emily Koegl at the 2018 conference championships. It was also over two seconds ahead of her closest competitor on Saturday, Navy's Elly Deas (2:03.87). Mead added a fourth-place effort in the 50 free after touching the wall in 23.54.

The best performance on the men's side also came in the 200 IM, where Reid Hussey placed second with a time of 1:51.38. He also took fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:42.01).

The Navy men, who have won every Patriot League championship dating back to 2004, took their dual by a score of 156-111, while the nine-time defending champion women's squad had a final margin of 214-65.

Jess Stolfi was the top women's performer in both diving events, as she placed second in the 3-meter (212.26 points) and fifth in the 1-meter (209.70). In the relays, the 'A' team of Elizabeth Walsh, Emma Schouten, Alana Andress and Mead completed their race in 1:48.05, while the 200 free relay 'A' squad of Claire Bowser, Stella Meyerhoeffer, Alison Prushinski and Andress recorded a time of 1:41.57.

Walsh was the top Loyola finisher in the 100 backstroke (56.85) and 100 butterfly (56.96), and she was fourth behind Mead and two Navy swimmers with a time of 2:07.66 in the 200 IM.

Schouten led the way for the Greyhounds in 100 breaststroke (1:07.11) and the 200 breast (2:24.03), Bowser was the top Loyola woman in the 200 free (1:56.05) and Andress led the way in the 200 fly (2:06.98).

In the distance events, Kylie Preihs turned in a 5:11.83 in the 500 free and an 18:16.87 in the 1,650 free. Meyerhoeffer led Loyola in the 200 back (2:08.92).

The men's top relays were Jonathan Brooks, David Sears, Jimmy Hayburn and Hussey in the 200 medley (1:34.23) and Zach Reid, John Nguyen, Jack Inman and Sean Keller in the 200 free (1:27.82).

Brooks the first Greyhound finisher in the 100 back (51.05), while he was beat out by teammate Mark Boran (1:50.91) in the 200 back. In the fly events, Ryan Atwood led Loyola in both the 100 (52.71) and 200 (1:55.23). Joey Cholish took fourth overall in the 100 breast (58.31) and Alex Grahor was third in the 200 breast (2:11.01).

In the freestyle races, Loyola was paced by Hayburn in the 50 (20.77) and 100 (47.30), Hussey in the 200, Dylan Champagne in the 500 (4:44.65) and Nick Pacitti in the 1,650 (16:51.82).

Dan Faunce was the lone Loyola men's diver competing this weekend. He scored 173.41 points in the 1-meter and 162.60 points in the 3-meter.

The Greyhounds are back at Mangione Pool next Saturday, hosting American at 1 p.m.
