Schedules Announced For Fall, Winter & Spring Sports

The Patriot League and Loyola University Maryland unveiled schedules on Friday morning for 15 sports that will compete during the 2021 spring semester.

Consistent with the prioritization of health and safety, the 2020-21 schedule formats feature reductions in travel and overnight stays. The League made adjustments to its traditional sport-specific formats, with teams playing an increased number of games against League opponents in closer geographic proximity.

Existing precautions for all athletic teams and events will continue until further notice. These precautions include testing, social-distancing and other protections in place for teams.

All home events continue to be closed to members of the general public, including student-athlete's families and current Loyola students.

The health protocols that are in place are designed to protect the health and safety of the campus community. These precautions have allowed Loyola to return to athletic competition in men's and women's basketball, as well as put plans in place for the Greyhounds varsity programs to have a season with opportunities to compete.

The indoor track and field season will run concurrently to cross country, as Loyola's squad will head to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to face Bucknell on February 14. A modified Patriot League event will be held February 27 with teams competing in multiple pods. Loyola will run against Navy and American in Annapolis, Maryland. This year's outdoor track and field schedule continues to take shape and will be posted at a later date.

Rowing – Schedule

The rowing programs get their season underway with a trip to Washington (Md.) on Saturday, March 27. The women will then travel to Fairfax, Va., to take on George Mason and Robert Morris the following afternoon.

Both programs have head-to-head matchups at La Salle (April 10) and Manhattan (April 24), and Loyola will also take part in St. Joseph's Jesuit Invitational on April 17.

This year's Dad Vails regatta is set for May 7-8 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The Greyhound women conclude their campaign at the Patriot League Championships on May 14-15. The conference meet will take place on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Soccer – Men's Soccer Schedule | Women's Soccer Schedule

Loyola's soccer programs each have six-game schedules against Patriot League opponents, beginning with contests against Navy on March 6. The 10 soccer programs will be grouped into two divisions based on geography; Loyola will compete in the South division with American, Bucknell, Lehigh and Navy, while the North will comprise of Army West Point, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette.

The women will be at Ridley Athletic Complex on the first two Saturdays in March, hosting Navy and Bucknell (March 13) while the men face those same schools on the road. The final home game for the women will be a matchup with American on April 3.

The men are slated to be at Ridley on March 20 (American), March 27 (Lehigh) and April 10 (Bucknell). Four teams will qualify for this year's Patriot League tournament, with semifinals scheduled for April 13 (men) and April 14 (women) and championship games set for April 17.

The women are coming off their first appearance in the Patriot League semifinals since 2015, and they return four of their five All-Patriot League selections from last season. The men became the first Patriot League program to claim at least a share of three-straight regular season conference championships, and they have won 10+ games in each of the last three seasons.

Swimming and Diving – Schedule

The swimming and diving program gets its season underway with a home dual against Towson at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. That will be the first of four-straight home weekends for the Greyhounds, who host Mount St. Mary's and American on the following two Saturdays before a two-day event with Johns Hopkins on March 6-7.

Road duals at La Salle and Bucknell precede the Patriot League Championships, which will be contested in Lewisburg, Pa., from April 21-24. Loyola is coming off a highly-successful conference meet in 2020 in which the Greyhounds placed six on All-Patriot League teams (their most since joining the league), and had a pair of conference champions in the men's 50 freestyle (Jimmy Hayburn) and women's 100 breaststroke (Devin Cronin).

The men placed third in the conference, their highest-ever finish in the Patriot League, with Max Verheyen named Rookie of the Meet and Brian Loeffler selected as Coach of the Year. On the women's side, Emma Schouten has earned All-Patriot League recognition in each of her first three seasons, including back-to-back first team accolades heading into 2021.
