Men’s Lacrosse Announces Schedule For 2021 Season

BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team announced a 12-game schedule for the 2021 season on Friday morning, a slate that will begin in just over a week.

Head Coach Charley Toomey, who is starting his 16th season at the helm of the Greyhounds, and Loyola are scheduled to face eight teams that have been ranked or are receiving votes in various preseason polls for 2021.

The Greyhounds are ranked No. 12 in the preseason United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches' Poll and 13th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.

Loyola men's lacrosse will open its year on February 13 when it heads down Interstate 95 to face Richmond in the first meeting between the schools in regular-season play. The Spiders, who have been a frequent scrimmage opponent for the Greyhounds, are coached by former Loyola Assistant Coach Dan Chemotti who was at Loyola from 2007-2012.

The Greyhounds continue their series against Virginia on February 20 as the Cavaliers come to Ridley Athletic Complex. Loyola has played Virginia during the month of February for each of the last seven years with four of the seven games being decided by one goal.

A new opponent will dot the schedule this year for Loyola as the Greyhounds will host Utah at Ridley Athletic Complex on February 27.

Following the game against the Utes, Loyola will enter Patriot League action with a modified schedule that will not see all conference teams play each other during the regular-season.

The Greyhounds will first play at Lehigh on March 6, followed by home games the following two Saturdays against Lafayette and Bucknell.

Next up, Loyola is scheduled to step out of conference play for a March 27 contest against Towson on the Tigers' home field.

Over the course of the next three weekends, Loyola will face Navy on April 3 in Annapolis, Maryland, followed by April 10 and 17 games at Ridley Athletic Complex against Army West Point and the Midshipmen.

Patriot League play is schedule to conclude on April 24 when the Greyhounds host Lafayette, and a May 1 date with Georgetown is on the books. That game, however, could change should the need arise for the weekend to be used to make-up a previously scheduled Patriot League game.

Consistent with the prioritization of health and safety, the 2020-21 schedule formats feature reductions in travel and overnight stays. Existing precautions for all athletic teams and events will continue until further notice. These precautions include testing, social-distancing and other protections in place for teams.

All home events continue to be closed to members of the general public, including student-athlete's families and current Loyola students.

The health protocols that are in place are designed to protect the health and safety of the campus community. These precautions have allowed Loyola to return to athletic competition in men's and women's basketball, as well as put plans in place for the Greyhounds varsity programs to have a season with opportunities to compete.
