SPARKS, Md. – Loyola University Maryland sophomore
Mason Cook was named to the
USA Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention on Wednesday after finishing his season one goal away from setting a school record.
The Towson, Maryland, resident ended the year with 59 goals, a single tally off of Kevin Lindley's 2019 school single-season record.
Cook is second in NCAA Division I in both goals and goals per game (3.69) through games of May 3 and earned Patriot League All-Tournament honors last weekend with eight goals and 10 total points in a pair of games.
He set a Patriot League Championships record with seven goals in the Greyhounds' semifinal win over Colgate on Friday, May 1.
Cook opened the season with three or more goals in each of Loyola's first six games of the year and finished the year with 13 in 16 outings. He added 12 assists to his 59 goals for 71 points, a total that is tied for eighth in school single-season history with Eric Lusby (2012) and current
Justin Ward (2014), Loyola's current assistant coach and offensive coordinator.
He also led the Patriot League in shooting percentage this season, scoring on 41 percent of his shots. He has the best shooting percentage nationally for players who have taken 120 or more shots.
