Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tempert Scores Again, Women’s Soccer Moves to 2-0 with Win over Bucknell

BALTIMORE – Ada Clare Tempert found the back of the net for the second time in as many games, and her 73rd minute strike was the only offense needed for Loyola University Maryland in a 1-0 victory over Bucknell on Saturday night.

The Greyhounds (2-0) picked up their first win over the Bison (0-1-1) in seven tries since joining the Patriot League, with the home side preventing Bucknell from registering a single shot on goal.

Taylor DiMarco and Vanessa Alessi both picked up assists on the game winner. DiMarco sent a ball from just beyond the halfway line to Alessi, who split two defenders to lead Tempert into a 1-on-1 situation with Bucknell goalie Jenna Hall. Tempert then chipped a shot straight between the legs of the charging keeper to put Loyola in front.

Alessi registered her first collegiate point on the play, while DiMarco now has three assists during her collegiate career.

The Greyhounds limited Bucknell to a single shot over the final 17:30 of regulation to secure the win. Paige Sim recorded her sixth career shutout without needing to make a save in goal.

Tempert, Sarah Bayer, Sarah Mirr and Alex Searing each finished with a pair of shots in the victory for Loyola, which is 2-0 to start Patriot League play for the first time since joining the conference in 2013. The Greyhounds' last win over Bucknell was a 2-1 triumph back on September 30, 2007.

On a night where Loyola had limited reserves available, Alessi, Arín Sigfúsdóttir, Lea Kristjánsdóttir, Sabrina Daglish and Nicole Thomas all logged key minutes off the bench to keep the home side fresh throughout.

Shots overall were 14-10 in favor of the Greyhounds, while the Bison had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Loyola is on the road for the first time this spring next weekend, traveling to American for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
