BALTIMORE – Caitlin Doran headed in a long free kick from Avery Fries 3:31 into the first overtime period, as Navy edged out a 1-0 victory over Loyola University Maryland at Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The Greyhounds (2-1 PL, 1-1 South) suffered their first defeat of the spring, while the Midshipmen (1-1 PL, 1-0 South) managed a victory in their first game action since Feb. 28.
A majority of the game was played in the midfield, with the sides combining for just five shots on goal overall. Loyola had six of the game's eight shot attempts in the opening half, but Navy had a 7-3 advantage the rest of the way.
Paige Sim made two saves in goal for the Greyhounds. She stopped Navy's first attempt in extra time, securing a header from Carolyn Mang off a corner kick. The game winner came off a free kick just past the center line, with Doran lofting the ball over a charging Sim and into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Kaleigh Gallagher all had two shots to lead the Loyola offense. Gallagher's sister, Mattie Gallagher, made two saves in goal while recording a clean sheet for the Mids.

The Greyhounds held their opponent to one goal or fewer for a 15th consecutive game dating back to Sept. 15, 2019. Loyola will look to get back on track next weekend, traveling to American for a road matchup on Saturday.
