Mead, Still, Verheyen Earn Patriot League Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland accounted for three of the Patriot League's four weekly swimming & diving award winners announced on Tuesday, with Lily Mead, Jack Still and Max Verheyen all recognized after contributing to 10 of the Greyhounds' 29 event victories against American over the weekend.

Mead (Timonium, Md./Delaney) is honored as the Female Swimmer of the Week for a third time this season after winning two individual events and swimming on first-place 200 medley and 200 free relays. She broke three-year old school records in both the 50 and 100-yard backstroke on Saturday. Her 50 back mark of 25.57, which led off the 200 medley relay, is the fastest among all Patriot League swimmers this season, while her 100 back time of 55.87 is ninth overall in the conference. Mead also added a season best first-place time of 2:19.14 in the 200 breast which ranks seventh among Patriot League swimmers.

Still (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) earns his second Male Diver of the Week award of 2021 after recording season best scores in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. His 3-meter score of 267.98 points was a career best effort which ranks fifth in the Patriot League this season, while his 1-meter effort of 253.79 is sixth overall. Still scored in both events at last year's conference meet, finishing ninth in the 1-meter and 10th in the 3-meter.

Verheyen (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) receives his first weekly award after posting three individual wins (100 breaststroke, 200 breast, 400 individual medley) and contributing to a first-place 200 medley relay finish. His 400 IM time of 3:57.92 is a new season best which ranks fifth in the Patriot League, while his times in both the 100 breast (55.94) and 200 breast (2:04.78) are also season bests which are among the top 12 in the conference. Verheyen is the school record holder in both the 200 IM and 400 IM, and he was named the 2020 Patriot League Male Rookie Swimmer of the Meet after placing in the top five in the 200 IM (2nd), 400 IM (3rd) and 200 breast (5th) at last year's conference championships.

Loyola's men topped American by a final score of 203-80, while the official margin on the women's side was 179.5-113.5. The Greyhounds will take part in a virtual meet with several Patriot League schools this weekend. The first session is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, and Saturday's sessions will take place at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
