ANNAPOLIS, Md. –
Livy Rosenzweig totaled seven points (2 G, 5 A),
Sam Fiedler and
Emily Wills had hat tricks and
Kaitlyn Larsson made nine saves in goal as Loyola University Maryland topped previously-unbeaten Navy by a 14-6 final on Wednesday evening.
The Greyhounds (6-2, 3-0 PL) used an extended 10-0 run which began at the 15:10 mark of the first half to break open what had been a 4-4 contest. The Mids (4-1, 1-1 PL) were held off the scoreboard for over 34 minutes of game action.
After Loyola jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, Navy responded with three-straight goals to even up the score. Fiedler began the offensive outburst, and she would score three times overall during a 7-0 stretch to conclude the half.
Elli Kluegel scored with 32 seconds left before halftime, and Fiedler beat the buzzer with five seconds remaining to make it an 11-4 scoreline heading into the intermission.
The Greyhounds controlled possession in the opening 30 minutes, winning 11 of 16 draw controls in the first half. Seven of those draws were won by
Jillian Wilson, who also added two goals and an assist in the victory.
Rosenzweig, Fiedler and Wilson tacked on insurance goals over the first 10 minutes of the second half to extend the lead into double digits. Navy broke its scoring drought with 13:30 left in regulation and added one more consolation strike in the closing minutes.
Rosenzweig's seven-point game was her fifth in eight games this season, and she moves into a tie for third all-time in program history with 290 career points (130 G, 160 A). She is 27 back of former teammate Hannah Powers for the top spot.
Fiedler had four points overall (3 G, 1 A), and she is now up to 28 goals and 13 assists in eight games on the year.
Holly Lloyd added two goals and an assist, while
Emily Beier netted her fourth goal of the year early in the first half.
Larsson's nine saves were backed by a .600 save percentage, while she and
Meaghan Quinn led the way with four ground balls apiece.
Shay Clevenger (3), Larsson (2) and
Riley Olmstead (2) also combined for seven caused turnovers.
Katie Detwiler supplied three draws, one ground ball and one caused turnovers, and she limited Navy's leading scorer, Tewaaraton Award watch list candidate Nicole Victory to zero goals, two assists and two shots overall.
Loyola improves to 10-3 lifetime against Navy and 55-0 against Patriot League opponents during regular season play. The Greyhounds take on another South division opponent this weekend, hosting Lehigh at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
