Women’s Basketball’s Season Ends with Patriot League Quarterfinal Defeat at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Taylor O'Brien totaled 22 points and 11 rebounds, leading the way for top-seeded Bucknell in a 65-50 victory over Loyola University Maryland in Sunday's Patriot League quarterfinal.

Tessa Brugler added 11 points and 11 boards for the Bison (9-0), who advance to play Lehigh in the semifinal round on Thursday. Isabella Therien recorded her sixth career double-double for the Greyhounds (0-13), contributing 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Bri Rozzi and Devyne Newman added 10 points apiece.

Bucknell, which was playing its first game since Jan. 31 due to COVID-19 protocols, led just 12-11 midway through the second quarter after a Newman jumper capped a 7-0 stretch for Loyola. The Bison, however, scored 26 of the game's next 29 points to take their largest lead at 38-14 with 6:15 remaining in the third.

The Greyhounds continued to play hard down to the final whistle, outscoring Bucknell in the second half and getting within nine points (59-50) with 1:10 left in regulation. The Bison went 6 of 8 from the free throw line to close out the victory.

Therien's double-double was her third of the season, and the third team All-Patriot League performer reached double figures in eight of the season's final nine games. Rozzi's 10 points were a new season high, as she hit 4 of 6 shots from the field and dished out a pair of assists.

Charia Roberts matched a season best with eight points, and she added five rebounds and two blocks in 19 minutes off the bench.

Boston University will host American in the other semifinal on Thursday, with the 2021 Patriot League championship game set for 4 p.m. next Sunday afternoon.
