LEWISBURG, Pa. –
Caleb Kelly and
Max Verheyen each contributed to four victories, as Loyola University Maryland's men's swimming and diving program won 14 of 16 events overall in a dual victory at Bucknell on Saturday.
The Greyhounds topped the Bison by a 203-97 margin on the men's side, while the Bucknell women prevailed by a 118-112 final.
Elizabeth Walsh,
Emma Schouten and
Megan Dickey posted individual wins for the women, and they teamed with
Lily Mead for a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:45.82) to begin the afternoon.
Kelly swept the sprint freestyle events, including a dominant season-best time of 20.26 in the 50 free which ranks No. 2 overall in the Patriot League this season. His mark of 45.02 in the 100 free was nearly two seconds ahead of the next closest finisher, Bucknell's Leo Kuyl (46.75).
Kelly teamed with
Conor Rutigliano, Verheyen, and
Sung Lee to win the 200 medley relay (1:30.53), and he led off Loyola's victorious 400 free relay which also included
John Nguyen,
Zach Reid and
Colin Anderson (3:06.06).
Verheyen took first in all three of his individual events, sweeping the 100 breaststroke (56.37) and 200 breast (2:06.71) and completing the 400 individual medley in 4:02.43.
Josh Walker was runner-up to Verheyen in both the 200 breast (2:09.59) and 400 IM (4:11.68) while
Alex Grahor placed second in the 100 breast (57.70).
Lee added a pair of individual victories after sweeping the butterfly events. His time of 49.41 beat out Rutigliano (51.07) in the 100 fly, and he posted a mark of 1:51.52 in the 200 fly.
Loyola also finished 1-2 in both backstroke races. Rutigliano (50.71) bested
Mark Boran (51.72) in the 100 back, while Boran (time not available) took first over
Casey Brown (1:52.82) in the 200 back.
Dylan Champagne touched the wall first in the 1000 free, as his time of 9:49.45 was ahead of teammate
Tommy Noone (10:09.67) in second. Champagne later added a second-place showing in the 500 free (4:42.55).
Jack Still had another strong weekend in the diving events. His first-place score of 270.15 points in the 1-meter was just off his season-best effort of 270.70 which ranks fourth in the conference, and he took second place in the 3-meter with 250.35 points.
On the women's side, Dickey bested the field in the 50 free with a time of 24.15, and she added a third-place performance in the 100 free (53.22). Schouten's individual win came in the 100 breast (1:05.21), and she was second overall in the 200 breast (2:24.00).
Walsh took first place in the 100 back (58.46), with Bucknell's Esme Hunter (59.45) and
Stella Meyerhoeffer (1:00.07) rounding out the top three. Walsh added runner-up efforts in the 200 back (2:08.01) and 100 fly (57.40). Her 200 back time just beat out teammate
Lauren Joyce (2:08.78) in third.
Loyola had two of the top three finishers in the 200 free, as Mead's second-place time of 1:55.04 edged out
Claire Bowser (1:55.82). Mead would later add a runner-up performance in the 500 free (5:04.73).
Molly Davis (2nd, 2:05.27) and
Alana Andress (3rd, 2:07.48) also cracked the top three in the 200 fly.
Anna Donato was the top Greyhound diver in the 1-meter, taking third with a score of 205.95 points, while
Jessica Stolfi placed third in the 3-meter with 200.78 points.
Dickey, Bowser,
Izzy Barnette and
Michelle Lebed closed out the afternoon with a second-place time of 3:35.96 in the 400 free relay.
The Greyhounds are back at Bucknell to conclude their season on April 24-25, as they will face the host Bison and American in a Patriot League Challenge Meet.
