BALTIMORE –
Edik Pribitkin and
Charlie Shanker each won three-set matches on Tuesday afternoon, helping the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team clinch a 5-2 win over visiting La Salle University at the McClure Tennis Center.
Meanwhile, in a women's match against Delaware State University,
Sandra Aguirre and
Olivia Tracey won three-set contests to give the Greyhounds a 4-3 victory.
The Greyhounds men led 3-2 after winning the double point and picking up singles victories by
Matt Cardano and
Oliver Davey, giving Pribitkin and Shanker the chance to clinch with one win.
Both came up victorious as Pribitkin got past Connor Merril, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 3 singles and Shanker won No. 4 in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (1), over Colin Lucius.
Cardano beat Brandon Caban, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5, and Davey was a winner by default over Dylan Tull at No. 6.
La Salle's Rogelio Gonzalez and Nassim Fenjiro won the No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively over Loyola's
Skyler Gates and
Benny Glezer.
Cardno and Davey clinched the doubles point for Loyola, beating Fenjiro and Lucius, 6-4, at No. 2 after
Tyler Mast and
Joe Ocker won by default at No. 3 against Caban and Tull. Gonzalez and Merrill were 6-4 winners at No. 1 against Pribitkin and Shanker.
Delaware State built an early lead in the women's match, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Brooke Santoriello and
Genevieve Wurtz won the No. 3 flight, 6-4, over the Hornets' Cassandra Boltman and Alina Polyvana.
Lolita Kozina and Klaudija Lisovska beat Katrei Martin and Abigail Thronton, 6-4, at No. 1, and Daria Julia and Iris Leder outlasted
Olivia Tracey and
Anna Rico, 7-6 (5), at No. 2.
Martin opened up the singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kozina at No.1, and
Abby Decker scored a 7-5, 6-4, win at No. 4.
Delaware State got back to within a point in the match, 3-2, as Lisovska beat Thornton, 7-5, 1-6, 6-0, at No. 2, but Loyola picked up two three-set wins to close out the team affair.
Aguirre won, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, at No. 5 against Boltman, and Davey used a tiebreaker win in the first set to go on to a 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3 decision against Julia.
Leder got the last point for Delaware State, edging
Julia Thompson, 5-7, 6-0, (10-4).
