Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at American

WASHINGTON – Sam Brown's second goal of the spring cancelled out an early strike from American, as Loyola University Maryland and the host Eagles finished in a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.

Loc San and Kelan Swales assisted on Brown's goal, which came 28:52 into the first half. Brown (2 G, 1 A) and Swales (3 A) have now factored in three of the four goals this spring for the Greyhounds (1-1-1 PL, 1-1-1 South). David Coly opened the scoring for American (2-1-1 PL, 2-1 South) with his second goal of the season in the eighth minute.

Today's game did not count towards the South division standings, as it was the second meeting between the two sides. Loyola's final two games of the regular season, at Navy on Wednesday and against Bucknell next Saturday, will both count as division contests.

San found Swales on the right side of the field to begin the goal-scoring sequence, and his cross to the center hit Brown in stride for a blast into the top right corner. San, who provided the double-overtime winner for the Greyhounds against Lehigh last weekend, now has points in each of his first two collegiate games.

Loyola had a commanding 19-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-0 margin in the second half, but the margin was just 4-1 for shots on target. The Greyhounds also earned eight of the game's nine corner kicks.

Both teams managed a pair of shots in the first overtime session, while efforts from Albert Kang and Justin Ingram failed to reach goal in the second overtime.

Brown had a game-high five shots on the afternoon, while Swales followed with four and Jonathan Sousa had three. Loyola has now gone to overtime in each of its first three games this spring.

The Greyhounds are back on the road for their midweek clash at Navy, with that matchup scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
