Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls 4-0 at No. 7 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – Caroline Conti and Megan Bornkamp scored less than three minutes apart early in the first half for No. 7 Clemson, and the Tigers added two insurance goals after the intermission to secure a 4-0 victory over Loyola University Maryland on Sunday.

Paige Sim made six saves in goal to keep the Greyhounds (1-1) within striking distance for a majority of the night. Renee Lyles and Sydney Maranik had the second half goals for the Tigers (2-0) who advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals last spring and were coming off an 8-0 win in their season opener.

Renee Guion assisted on each of Clemson's first two goals, setting up Conti in the 12th minute and finding Bornkamp to double the advantage 14:15 into the contest. The home side finished with a 26-0 edge in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks.

The game was halted with 5:40 remaining in regulation due to lightning in the area.

Sim, who surrendered multiple strikes in a game for the first time in 22 collegiate appearances, still had several strong moments in goal while matching her six-save performance from Loyola's 1-0 victory over Marist in last Thursday's opener. Four of her six stops came during the final 30 minutes of the first half.

The Greyhounds faced off against Clemson for the first time since 1995, and this was their first matchup against an ACC opponent since taking on Duke in the first round of the 2012 NCAA tournament.

Loyola remains on the road next Friday, traveling to Princeton for a matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
