BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland head men's soccer coach
Steve Nichols announced on Tuesday the additions of
Jesse Haislip and
Matt Little to the Greyhounds' coaching staff.
Haislip joins the program as an assistant coach, while Little will serve as the program's goalkeeper coach. Both bring extensive local and club experience to a Loyola team which has won 10+ games in each of the last three fall seasons and added a Patriot League South division title during the shortened 2021 spring campaign.
A Baltimore native and a standout goalkeeper as a player, Haislip most-recently coached with FC Baltimore Christos in the National Premier Soccer League, where he helped the team earn an NPSL Mid Atlantic Conference title in 2019. Prior to that, he was part of a pair of national championship-winning teams during a five-year stint at club powerhouse Baltimore Celtic. Haislip began his club career at Baltimore Bays, working under Nichols in his first role.
"Jesse is a great addition to our staff," Nichols said. "He is a local guy who has grown up, played and coached in Baltimore. He was a very good player in his day and has been even more successful as a coach. He understands who we are and what the program is looking to accomplish, and we're excited to have him help take us to the next level."
As a player, Haislip was the goalkeeper for Andover High School during its run to a Maryland state championship in 1989, and he went on to play collegiate soccer at UMBC. After graduation, Haislip and his two brothers founded Christos FC, an amateur club which made news nationally in 2017 after advancing to face DC United in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
Haislip continues to play and coach at Christos FC and was part of three national championships with the club's over-30 squad. He graduated from UMBC with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.
A longtime coach at the high school and club levels in Maryland, Little has spent the past six seasons as an assistant at Calvert Hall in Towson. While there, he coached 29 students, including five goalkeepers, who would go on to play college soccer.
In addition to his goalkeeping responsibilities, Little managed video analysis and strength and conditioning programs for the entire roster, and he also ran the team's Instagram and Twitter accounts. Calvert Hall had 19 MIAA A All-Conference players, reached three MIAA A semifinals and finished as conference champions in 2016 during his tenure.
"We are lucky to bring a guy like Matt on board," Nichols said. "He is a tremendous goalkeeper coach who already has a relationship with some of our keepers from their youth careers. He inherits a very talented group, and with his high energy and meticulous attention to detail we're excited to watch our goalkeepers develop to a whole new level."
Prior to joining Calvert Hall, Little spent two seasons as an assistant at Archbishop Curley High School, coaching 11 students (including two goalkeepers) who advanced to the collegiate level. Curley reached the MIAA A semifinals in each of his two years on the staff and had four all-conference players.
Little began his club coaching career as an assistant for Lutherville-Timonium Soccer Club in 2012. He has also assisted at Baltimore Celtic and Pipeline Soccer Clubs, and he was named head coach of FC USA Soccer Club in August, 2019.
Outside of soccer, Little has worked for the Baltimore Ravens organization since 2006, currently serving as the team's Senior Manager of Marketing & Football Outreach. He graduated from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in sport management.
The Greyhounds begin the 2021 season with a home matchup against UC Irvine on August 29.
